Being an Eastport resident for several years now I can say this, that whenever it gets close to July 4th, houses tend to go on the market due to the population swelling from 1400 full time to over 15K in visitors. Yes, it is a quaint town, however, it is "out there" as one poster put it. I own tow homes in town.

Oh my, I didn't realize it's such a big summer tourist destination. Would like to visit in the off-season. Thanks for the info.

Isn't Eastport a big destination for the New Years celebrations?

Yes, because the sun comes up in Eastport first in the USA at that time of year. We are tilted toward the sun now. If you get too enthusiastic on New Year's Eve though, you might miss the sunrise. I'm just saying'.

We are thinking about moving to Eastport but have no connections to the city or the state. In other words, we would be "outsiders".

At least at first.

I kind of figured that the houses that are listed for sale are overpriced and this thread kind of confirmed that. But how would it look if I, as an admitted outsider, came in and made a realistic bid on a house? Would that seem as if I'm trying to lowball somebody or take advantage of a bad situation? Would it put me in bad stead with those who have been there for a long time?

Like anybody else, I don't want to overpay, but at the same time, I don't want my first official act in Eastport to be one that seems to be taking advantage of a local due to an unfortunate situation.

I thank you in advance for your honest opinion on this and hope to find a solution that will help me get things started on the right foot (if and when moving day comes) without forcing me to pay an unrealistic price for a house.
I don't blame you a bit, I had several family members in town as a kid and when they passed away their kids sold off the houses for whatever they could get for them. My aunt sold my grandparents house for $40,000, in 2001, it is on the market now for $175,000, my great uncles two doors down was sold for $45,000 and currently available for $199,000.

Every time my wife and I are in town we walk every street and look at what is for sale, it seems like it's the same houses every time and many need a lot of work to be move in ready.

I am wondering anything changes? I was there a couple of years ago and it was a little town.

Eastport now becoming a spot for cruise ships. A bad thing or good thing? I still think Eastport is just too isolated to be a year round place. Love some of the older homes there and the arts community.
