I do wish you the very best of luck! I hope it all works out well for you and that you end up in the place that is "just right" for you and your family.

I don't know how I missed this for a week.

You are probably between locations at the moment but I wanted to also wish you a safe trip to FL, have fun looking around, and before you melt into the pavement, get yourself back to Maine.

As someone currently living in a house that will NEVER be home, I can relate all too well to your feelings of unsettledness. (is that a word?) When you walk into your home you should have that "aaaahhh" feeling. When you walk in and feel stressed or uncomfortable in any way, you know it's not the right home for you.

Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best.

I have to say that if I had the money, I would live part of the year in Maine and part in Florida. I don't like to be cold but I have seen NOTHING more gorgeous then coastal Maine.

I look back over the pictures taken when I was a child, my parents were semi retired and we traveled all over New England. Maine was a special favorite of my Fathers. We spent alot of time exploring the entire state in our motor home.

One of my best memories is how we would stop to eat, my Father would pull into a little layby kind of place where there was a stream running by, he would pull out the Hibatchi and throw some steaks on and my Mom would cook in the motor home. I would accidently fall into the stream. One time when my Mother wasn't looking, my Dad, my older brother and sister AND the German Shephard, Countess and I ALL accidently fell into the stream. She was NOT pleased to see what I had instigated but it was one of the best days I can remember.

I have frolicked in the ocean and many a stream in Maine, the water is like a magnet to me.

It's probably hard to be African-American anywhere, just for different reasons.

When we were "away down in Massachusetts". The people were rude and mean (imho), and I heard the "N-Word" on the street constantly.
In this case Massachusetts could be interchanged with just about any other state. The black kids here all call each other "*****" as if it is an acceptable, sanitised form of the N-word, thanks to the thug/gangsta subculture, and rap songs that use the word "*****" over and over again. I can foresee negative effects on our society in perceptions, especially among younger people not old enough to remember segregation, discrimination, and the civil rights movement.

Kids (and adults) can be nasty and down right hurtful. In this day and age we should be past all of that racial stuff.
People in Maine are good people who just are not used to being around black people, therefore I would be inclined to believe that would be enough to cause situations that have less to do with racism, but more to do with a lack of understanding. People in Ohio are a lot more mean sprited and hateful, rednecks waving confederate flags and things like that.

I agree that the problem could be the home and/or its location itself.
Since I left the home I loved the most, every other place has left me restless, except one oceanside winter rental. It was small, had a weird layout (had to go outside to go on the deck ), was totally not modernized and brutally unwinterized, yet....warm and welcoming, like getting a big hug every time we came home to it.

Now we don't want to buy ANY house unless it gives us that "home" feeling. It's very personal and can be hard to describe, especially to some real estate agents who try to pressure you into choosing something from their available inventory rather than wait for the right thing. If you don't buy the right one, you'll never be happy no matter how you dress it up.

I once had a neighbor of my grandmother get really upset with me, because I wouldn't paint her house on weekends.
I am not/was not a house painter and I enjoyed working on my grandmothers house on the weekends.
