I'm sure if you've all watched the National news you know that we have a "little storm" headed my way. We aren't sure of the path yet however at about 2 am when it crosses over the Florida Straits (between Cuba and the Keys) we'll have a better idea of where Fay is headed. We are under a Tropical Storm Warning where I live. One projection shows it hitting the Keys. Key West is all boarded up. The put in a mandatory evacaution at 8am this morning for all visitors down there. I'm sure most of you know this is only a 2 lane road in and out of the Keys. They have lifted tolls however traffic out has been backed up all day with locals down there moving there boats to safer ground. The gas lines are crazy. Some of the gas stations are all out of gas.

Most recently the projected path shows her making land as a Cat 1 in Fort Myers, 1.5 hours west of me.

The official first day of school in all 3 counties (Monroe, Miami-Dade and Broward) has been cancelled for the next 2 days. Shools are being set up to be used as shelters.

This morning the seas were a little rough and the wind had picked up. I cleared off my balcony bringing in all of my furniture and little knick-knacky things. All of my little mermaids are safe and sound inside my condo. I waited in line for 30 minutes and gassed up the car in case an emergency evacuation is put into place. I live in a zone 1 area, meaning we would be the first to be evacuated. I've dug out all of my hurricane supplies. After the last big hurricane here (2005- Wilma and Rita), the bldg made it mandatory for all units to have high-impact glass and hurricane shutters. The storm surge projected at this point doesn't concern me here on my floor. However for each 5 floors you are up, the catagory climbs by one level. So a Cat 1 on the ground would be a Cat 2 or 3 up here.

If I am evacuated I'll grab the dog and kitten and meet DH in Jacksonville. He is currently in Atlanta, so a 5 hour ride north for me and a 5 hour south drive for him and we'd meet there for a couple days til this blows over.

Again, thanks to everyone that has checked in with me. I appreciate all of your concern, you guys are the best!

BTW- I'm a hearty Mainer, this is gonna be nothing!
Hope all is well Ms. Mermaid! It looks like they don't expect Fay to build back to hurricane strength. Looks like just a bunch of rain. Bring in the laundry and I think you'll be OK!

Thanks buddy! I'm not sure which station you're watching. Glad you aren't down here watching the news tickers crawl across the bottom of every local station. Yup it's just like a nor'easter blowing into Maine. It's all about the 'hype'.

Meanwhile it is blowing like hell here on the beach. The rattle of the wind blowing through metal accordian shutters is not pleasant.

Be right back.... gotta go grab the laundry!
