I wonder how much land in MA and the US for that matter is taken up by cemeteries.

I can't see that being well-received here. I would wager that like most other land, burial plots will continue to skyrocket in price and a growing number people will opt for more affordable options like cremation.

I am some 45 miles from downtown Boston and a three bedroom ranch on my street just got listed at $695k on April 6th. Price was dropped $20k on the 14th.

That is funny that someone didn't even want to have to drive by a cemetery. I drive by a cemetery everyday, it's actually very pretty, lots of trees, flowers and bushes. I'd rather drive by a cemetery than a mall or a super busy place everyday.
My father-in-law used to live in a condo that overlooked a cemetery in Chestnut Hill. His standard line was "the neighbors are VERY quiet!" I didn't have much trouble selling it for him but there were a few people who walked in and walked right out when they saw the headstones through the window.

Wow! I never thought about burying someone vertically. Burying people horizontally now that I think about it does sound like a tremendously inefficient way to do it. Not sure how comfortable people around here would be with the idea of double dipping on plots or re-burying older bodies in a mass grave in order to reuse a plot but maybe in time that would change. Mausoleums are another more efficient way to buy people as each wall tends to have multiple rows stacked on top of each other of caskets.

OMG at that Hingham one. That just does not look like a 3.3M house at all!

It sold for 900k in 2014. people are nuts with their money these days.

Cemeteries don't bother me at all. I grew up within walking distance of a large one, and currently live in walking distance of 2 large ones.

I actually like older cemeteries circa 1700's and 1800's. Nobody goes to visit, and the headstones are very unique and have character.

I wouldn't want to live near a cemetery. And not just because of the dead people. It's also because of the visitors (sad people crying). I just don't need to see that or be around it.

It's NUTS out there. I put in an offer for a client this weekend in Carver and they got 26 offers. Our offer was something like $50K over asking and while we were close we didn't get it.

If you read the listing (not that Z.com GARBAGE) then you'll see the house was gutted and expanded in 2016. So, this was a remarkably different property in 2014.

Otherwise, I absolutely agree with you. $3.3M for this place??? Doesn't seem to make sense. It's a 3300 sq ft house with a sub 800 sq ft guest house and a barn. Sure, it sits on nearly an acre but I just can't fathom why anyone would want to pay $3.3M for this place. I've seen tons of houses that I much rather buy for that price than this one.

Inventory is tighter than ever...so many people and so few (good) houses.
