I didn't know that ceiling tiles are possibly asbestos.

Usually....hence, why I said these new owners might want to apply for an abatement! If they're doing a full reno...then maybe by then the current assessment will be accurate.

Any manufactured building material made before 1989 may contain asbestos.

When growing up, the downstairs of my parents' house had ceiling tiles and part of the floor was tile. My dorm room at college had ceiling tiles. And if I'm remembering correctly, many classrooms had ceiling tiles.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what ceiling tiles are. I looked online and see quite a few different examples. Are we talking about the kind that can pop in and out that are basements typically?

It sounds like a place has to be tested for asbestos first...just because a place has popcorn ceilings or ceiling tiles does not automatically mean asbestos is present.

I think that house and why it went under asking has gone off the rails a bit. $750k might seem low but clearly the seller had trouble getting a buyer. It was listed pretty high in the first place, the street on the other side of it is also very busy.

These homes are also on a busy street and recently sold. I would not want to live on a busy street that close to other homes...but apparently some folks didn't mind:

these homes are right around the corner:

I know someone who recently re did a home that had asbestos in it...they resold it for 1.4M and was not a big house.

Look at the listing for that Tremont St house. There are like 3 rooms that have the ceiling tiles you can see them in the listing photos.
