The reasons why I prefer Miami:

1. Cost of Living: I like how much further my money goes in Miami. I could never afford my lifestyle in LA, even if my salary was higher. Salaries in my field are not that much higher in LA that I could keep up with the cost of living.

2. Traffic: Yes, traffic is bad in Miami but I can afford to live in the neighborhood that is most convenient to me as far as commuting goes. In LA, I would not be able to live close to where I would likely work due to the high cost of housing.

3. Taxes: I am not above paying taxes in exchange for better services. I have no problem paying tolls on the expressways here in order to have a more pleasant driving experience. However, I don't see where the money goes in California - the roads are awful and the state is virtually bankrupt. So I wouldn't want to throw my money into that.

4. Climate: Our summers in Miami are rough but winters in California aren't great - it can be cold and rainy and I'll take a hot and humid summer over a cold and rainy winter. That's just me though. I also love warm nights and you won't get those in LA, at least not near the coast.

5. The Beach: I prefer the Atlantic over the Pacific - warmer temperatures and better temperatures overall year round. I find the beaches here more functional and also accessible - a lot of Southern California's coast line is private property.

LA handsdown, I moved from to LA and stayed 4 years and came back a year ago, Miami has its perks, great weather year round, beaches, and nightlife, LA has the worst Nightlife of any major city in the USA. Clubs close at 2am, but you can ski and go to the beach in the same day, how amazing is that? LA is pretty dry but the mountain views is nice. Another thing, I think LA is better in terms of finding decent homes for a reasonable price. Neighborhoods like North Hollywood, Pasadena, Studio City, Sherman oaks etc etc are very reasonable for safe places compared to Miami. And all in all there is more to do in LA, but thats a given because LA metro has 4x the population of Miami

Miami has year-round shorts and beach weather. LA gets suprising chilly in the winter. I'm into boating and swimming and fishing--Miami wins this hands down. There's more for me in Miami. FWIW, LA is still better than 90% of the rest of the county IMO.

Miami has clean(er) air & water. and imho the beachers are MUCH nicer.

and i know loads of people will disagree with me on this, but I find the people here to be much nicer and more down-to-earth than Cali.... after 4 months there i was SO OUT - ppl in L.A. are flaky and weird.
