St. Paul gun incident reports up 65% so far in 2012 (w/ searchable map) - TwinCities.com

The number of actual deaths is quite low, but families are unnerved by all the guns being fired. NRA must be so pleased!

I think the NRA is more interested in seeing a proliferation of legal educated gun owners, not more of the type more likely to have fired those shots. Most of the folks I know who hunt, shoot, and/or just carry are far less likely to fire a weapon than most would expect. They aren't toys.

NRA favors the most guns possible and free sales without curbs to prevent crazy kids from getting them. So, St Paul is Nirvana as seen by NRA.

How many of these shooters legally purchased their weapons? I bet not many. The point? Criminals will always find ways to get guns. What people like you want to do is ensure the rest of us can't defend ourselves against them.

Why do we see so many mass shootings in gun-free areas like post offices, high schools & college campuses? Because no one but the criminal is armed. You never see mass shootings at gun shows or the firing range.

Do you think a criminal could easily get access to an RPG in the United States? That whole criminals will always find a way is a pretty lazy argument. Guns aren't drugs.

Most shootings aren't in post offices, high schools and college campus', you just remember those. Most are in pretty terrible areas with easy access to guns over turf wars/drugs. They aren't going to come knocking on your door in Nokomis man.

Besides, it seems to be a pattern that those who advocate such open gun laws seem to come from neighborhoods with very little crime. It all just seems so paranoid. The world isn't that scary, really.

I know a fair number of people who are members of the NRA, and most of them would not agree. The continued freedom to bear arms depends on people being law abiding when doing so.

Please stop talking about something you obviously don't understand.

And here I thought that the above particular locations, schools and places of employment, were targets because the crazed gun-nut perpetrators either went to school or worked at, or otherwise had an "issue" with, said establishments.

Silly me, I should of guessed that these type of places are picked because they aren't replete with other gun-nuts.

Both great points. It's easier to understand the gun availability issue when you look at other countries that don't have gun violence problems and realize that more than anything it is due to the fact that most guns simply aren't legal and available in those places. Then there are countries like Mexico. They wouldn't have a gun violence problem if violent firearms weren't so availalble and easy to come by in the U.S. Otherwise try to find an assualt weapon anywhere in Mexico. Outside of maybe Tepito in Mexico City they don't exist.

I would love to see gun production and available stop in this country, especially non-hunting/sporting weapons.

Despite your good intentions your fear & paranoia have you trying to treat the symptom, instead of the ailment. The symptom is gun deaths. The ailment is a sub-section of society that glorifies gang culture & using hand guns to solve any & all disputes. Also guilty are a Government that sets the example of solving all disputes with guns & a 24/7 media that revolves around violence & fear. Until these cultural aspects are addressed, banning firearms won't make one iota of difference. I've spent quite a bit of time in small, rural towns where everyone has guns & never once seen a drive-by or someone spray a dozen bullets into the side of someone's house. Why not? Because it's not the guns, not the access to guns, rather the people using them, their mindset & their lack of chances to become respected for something in life other than violence.
