In keeping with the overall theme of this thread, which is why MO and the Ozarks are so much better than the misery outside of this area, I would like to point out, food prices are about 10% below national average, here in the Ozarks.

(I consider the thread title to be ironic... )
No kidding. Last time I was in Kansas City, I could not believe how much higher it was for groceries.

Sales tax in addition to locality addons are a staggering 10%+ on grocery food items in Johnson County, KS. This will reduce it in half by July, however:

“Axing the food tax will directly help hard-working Kansans save money and get much-needed relief from the pandemic-induced inflation,” Kelly said in a statement. “I urge the Legislature to work together to send me a clean bill eliminating the state’s sales tax on food as quickly as possible.”

This is very good news for those in Kansas.

Overall, Missouri is a good place to live, But as in most major cities, there are dangerous gang areas in Kansas City, St Louis, Springfield and a few others. You just need to be aware of your surroundings. Just some bad neighborhoods, like in Chicago, where most of the city is safe except 4-5 neighborhoods.
Even a nice looking city like Blue Springs, Mo has some gang activity. We were having a picnic there in a beautiful park, when a police officer warned us it would not be safe there after dark.

When I first read this thread title......the only thing that came to mind was the weather here in Missouri. It can go from gorgeous to pure MISERY in a matter of hours.

Heat and humidity in the summer make living in Missouri miserable. Same with Arkansas and Oklahoma.

I'll take the heat and humidity in Missouri any day over the oppressive heat, where I lived, in Richardson, TX

There is no true mild summer weather in the US with the exception of the immediate West Coast and higher latitude areas near Lake Superior.

Missouri summer heat and humidity can be unbearable. I remember oppressive 114 degree days back in the early 1980s. As a kid I got heat exhaustion playing outside. Air conditioning was rare or maybe just a single window unit. I'm now in the high desert at 5500 ft with very low humidity (often single digits) and it is very reasonable, if not mild, in summer. Most people do not have AC but use an evaporative cooler. At this elevation the sun will get you before the heat.

Missouri hasn’t seen 114° days since 1954, unless we’re talking about the heat index.
Still, summers aren’t pleasant but that’s the case for just about anywhere east of the Rockies and south of I-80 or I-90.
