I just recently watched Twilight Saga movie series. I never watched them before, because I just wasn't into that type of movie back then. So I started watching one, and got caught up in it.
I watched the scene of "Escape from New York" for the crash scene a couple of days ago since the 911 anniversary was coming up. I had seen that film in 1981 as a child. I never realized that the towers would be gone decades later from a jet crash. The film was set to be in the "future" of the 90s with science fiction. But that crash scene was surreal. I was just a kid at the time getting ready for 7th grade football games. I wish those twin towers were still standing. RIP.
It's a good movie for inspiring horror without blood and guts such as with the music and the fleeting shadows. Wonderful use on a small Texas town for backgrounds. Great demonstrations of how to use a camera. But other than the technical highlights, it rather sucks.
Themes in the movie that lead one down a false path, thinking they are going to produce something, tie in to the grand conclusion and they don't. Conclusions that are made to drastic actions and there is no reason for them to be made. In the end, does good triumph over the evil, does the knight save the princess? We don't know for those answers just are not there. The movie just ends like maybe they were hoping for the sequel. If that was the intention, I detest those flicks for I feel conned but with this flick, it feels more like they just got tired of making the movie......or they ran out of money.
I figure I must have picked up this flick at the dollar store and hence, it was worth the price of its "ticket" but other than that.........about a 1.0 out of 10.
Amazon says I order this back in the Spring, so it must have been one of those suggestion movies. For all the themes I am not interested in, the angry young man, the social message, life as a 60's commoner, and so forth.....it is still a pretty good flick. Holds the attention through out the movie. Say a 7.6.
Also watched Three Days of the Condor (1975), directed by Sydney Pollack on Amazon Prime the other day. First time seeing it - 9/10. Robert Redford, Faye Dunaway, Robert Houseman, Max von Sydow, Cliff Robertson.
Wonderful photography, beautiful people, great story, lots of bloody action! About the only down side of the flick is that the internal subtitles, that displayed when another language is being displayed, are impossible to read. Another possible downer is that some people look rather too clean. Other than that, though, the flick holds the attention. Say about a 9.2.
