A big factor in the outflow of money from the "blue" states to the "red" states is caused by the movement of retirees who then take their SS and medicare money with them. This isn't the sole reason and a lot of it has to do with influential committee chairs steering money to their own states, but it is a big slice of the pie, especially for NJ.

interesing, it would hardly be wise for people to stay in high tax states when they stop working. i have no intention of staying in nj after retirement

N.J. Democratic senator proposes bringing back 'millionaires tax'

I have a better great idea. Let's have a tax on senators who used to own ADP and broke numerous labor laws keeping the teamsters out of the traffic department. Let's call it the Lautenberg tax.

I think one Cray super computer could run the government better than all these politicians. Send 'em home to get a real job.

is this a serious question?

one way is to spend so frivolously that you can no longer afford to take on more debt and you cant legislate any new taxes. so you dont have money to spend. thats where we will be within 2 years.

yeah. since you don't advocate people actually stop spending, how do you recommend stop spending? i suggest that politicians stop asking for money to spend, you say they can't or won't. you say we have to stop giving them money to spend. but they spend it whether we give it to them or not. don't you see the problem with this logic? the only way to stop spending is to STOP FRIGGING SPENDING. there's no magical way to cut off their spending.

im not sure what kind of game you are playing. i think i have repeated said already that you take away the power to spend. if there is no money to give, people can ask all day long and they wont get anything.

they spend money they dont have to the point until they cant raise any more debt. new york state just cut a couple of billion from nyc, they laid off thousands of teachers. i would prefer if government was required to balance their budget every year and not be allowed to take on any debt.

anyway, look at what is happening now. obama produced a budget, republicans are trying to cut money from it. if the succeed, certain programs will get less or no funding. so instead of spending 3.7 trillion, you spend 3.6 trillion. its not nearly enough but its reducing spending like you seem to think is impossible. i assure you none of the programs being cut are voluntarily willing to give up their funding. someone has to say no.

ok - so how do you explain deficit and national debt? how do you take away the power to spend when the money isn't there to spend. wouldn't that be the pay-as-you-go rules that the democrats/"liberals" wanted to follow, but the "conservatives" won't?

no debt isn't the best way, but i agree that debt should be limited.

i'm just pointing out the fact that you're saying it's fine that the politicians are taking every penny they can get because someone's going to spend it anyways, yet at the same time you're saying they need to stop spending money they don't have. soooo...rather than stick to their principles of not wasteful spending, it's ok that they spend because...someone's gonna do it, so why shouldn't it be them. that's the cycle that needs to be broken in my opinion. and i commend that politicians who actually live up to their word, even if i don't agree with everything they believe in.
