While I don't NJ should secede I think the entire Northeastern Megalopolis should secede and we have the money and economy to do it and make it work....its no big secret that the Northeastern states subsidize the south...
Why does NJ have the petition...we gave all our electoral votes to Obama
I can see Texas and some of those other states with petitions that will go no where as it is impossible for peaceful seceding from the Union...have they forgotten the Civil War???
it will have to get much worse for something like that to actually have any legs.
they should be working on trying to limit the power of the cities to impact elections. maybe some kind of test of american history and basic knowledge and literacy to vote.
They had poll taxes & literacy tests in the racist, Jim Crow south. I'm guessing you're a Republican.
Why does NJ have the petition...we gave all our electoral votes to Obama
Even though the president handily won in the state of NJ, obviously his opponent did score many votes in our state. Some of those who voted for Romney are not happy with reality, apparently.
Since some people simply can't accept that they picked the wrong horse in this race, their reaction is to try anything to disavow the reality of the election's outcome. When these folks did not get their way in the 2008 election, they resorted to attempts to prove (pick one or more) that the president was not a "natural born US citizen", or that he never attended Columbia University, or...perhaps that he was a space alien.
By now, I guess that these folks have realized that those earlier attempts will not succeed. Just as those wingnuts were not successful with those earlier efforts, I seriously doubt if this latest attempt to disavow reality will have much impact--other than gaining a few headlines.
Having a few thousand residents of NJ signing a petition does not make for a genuine movement, and IMHO, this just represents a group of malcontents who would rather waste their time on this mission to nowhere, rather than working collectively to try to resolve the nation's problems over the next 4 years.
Hmm from what I have read Texas is the only state with a wee wee bit of wiggle room...if they succeed in seceding perhaps I'll move there...lol...lol j/k
