"Red" southern & midwestern states get far more govt. cheese compared to states like CT, NY & NJ who give much more than they get back. And for the most part, we don't b*tch & moan about it like those who think they are "makers." We're too tough to complain.
if a state has a military base within it or defense companies in it that the federal government buys from or maintains, is that some form of welfare for the state?
democrats love that concept that red states take more than they give but its bs. they should at least narrow it down to actual welfare spending per person instead of including all federal money spent in the state.
I don't think NJ wouldn't be able to afford to pay the US Government their share of the national debt in exchange for the secedeing.
Rediculous anyway, it won't happen.
its funny you mention that. seceding from the union would remove a huge financial burden of federal debt from the state and stick the remaining states with it. another reason why the federal government will hurt more than the states that leave. no federal debt interest or principal payments.

Unnecessary military spending - which IMO is like 75% of military spending, now at a preposterous $700BN a year - is most definitely govt. welfare. Ike had it right when he said beware of the military industrial complex. We don't need bases in every country. Time for the rest of the free world to step up and waste their $. Thank God Mitt lost so we don't have to attack Iran.
Yes, Mississippi & West Virginia get much more welfare spending per person. If I'm wrong then link to a study.

the idea of those "taker" states is deceptive and if you are ok with the deception, then continue to use it. im sure you will, the democrat doesnt care about honesty. the ends justify the means for a democrat.

It's only "unnecessary" until it's necessary, and then all the libs are whining about why their sons and daughters, who thought they'd get a free education in the military, have to go to war and don't have the basics. Until Obama pulls his head out of his pinched arsehole, stops bowing to head dictators in charge of ME countries, good luck with that line of thinking.

You left out California.
Quote:
California's caseload far outnumbers the rest of the country, with 3.8 percent of its population on welfare in 2010.
According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Health and Human Services, Maine, the state with the second highest percentage, had 2.9 percent of its population on welfare. Tennessee, New Mexico and Washington, the next three states, were at 2.5 percent.
Heavenwood....as you said Texas is about the only state with the wiggle room (my words) to peacefully secede....why is that ? I can not find anything searching google...
how do you find the link to sign the petition though
