I recently found Darlington Lake in Mahwah, NJ, and was wondering where other swimming lakes are in New Jersey. And especially swimming lakes with cliffs to jump off of into the water (whether technically allowed or not). And also lakes where you can both swim and kayak. If I'm going to do a whole day with friends out at a lake, I would prefer to do both exercises/recreation. Stupid Sheppard pond swimming isn't allowed, even though it's a huge lake owned by the public. pffff

Anybody know any places?

I'm in Northern NJ, but for everyone's sake let's include all of NJ, and also include going up into Rockland county and further north into New York State. When you live in Northern NJ, you can drive up there.

Looking forward to suggestions

Google finds it all. Like the site says, be very careful diving from cliffs. Especially ones you dont know.

Unless you know what's right under the surface, that could be very foolish.

Make sure you're wearing to protect your head since there's a chance you'll be breaking your neck.

Or if you take five minutes and investigate what's there before jumping, that could very safe.

How is a helmet going to protect you from breaking your neck? Besides, the OP is talking about cliff JUMPING, not diving. Pretty hard to break your neck when you're going in feet first

Is it closed? I was there earlier today and thought I saw people in the water.

Or are you making a joke? If so that went right over my head.

I was there today too and was in the water with my kids. It's definitely open We got there at 10:00 a.m. and it was pretty packed by the time we left around 3:00-they may have reached capacity and had to start turning folks away. On 287 on the way home one of the electronic message signs said that Wawayanda was at full capacity and was closed. We live near Round Valley and Spruce Run which also close when the swimming areas are full but we know back ways to sneak in when they close the gates
