Give or take 15 minutes, usually give, this is accurate.
45 minutes also gets you to Montclair, South Orange, and Maplewood as I already mentioned. The schools are about average.
Sheesh, if you saw the question I specifically responded to, the OP asked about Bergen County within 45 minutes and I answered she would only get Lower Bergen County... as in, the usual recommendations of Ridgewood, HoHoKus, etc. with the elite schools, would be out of her commuting range.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record (for those of you old enough to know what that means lol), bear in mind that Manhattan is a small island and a quarter million people in NJ are trying to get across the same river every day to get to work using the same limited number of crossings--be they bridges or tunnels or boats--as everyone else. This is why the commutes take so much longer than a person might think glancing at a map without factoring in the volume of commuters.

I would look Summit, Chatham, Westfield, New Providence, Ridgewood, Wyckoff.
