There are regional differences in friendliness regarding how people go about their daily lives.
Let's be real, NJ isn't the friendliest place in that way.
I think the "friendly" places have the same people, but it's their style to pretend to be friendly, and Jersey ditched that game decades ago to save time.

Someone has said, "Well, bless your heart." to me. She didn't understand the chin flick.

Oh definitely. I lived in Dallas for a while. Everyone was so "friendly" I thought they all wanted to be my friend, you know, coming from NJ. Ah, they didn't LOL!
To be honest though, now at this point of my life, I wouldn't mind a little more friendliness as I go about my day, even if it is just surface friendliness

Sometimes you have to start it. Be the first to smile and say "good morning". People do react positively for the most part.

Most of the time people hold doors for me, smile at me if we pass and make eye contact, occasionally make small talk on line or something. I do the same. What more do people want? When I go to football or baseball games (football here in NJ but obviously baseball in NY) the people in the seats nearby usually converse with me, and I with them, and them with others nearby. I’ve definitely come across rude people who are just inconsiderate and in their own worlds but it’s not the norm for me.
