gonna be a lot more day trippers from nyc to nj soon.
I've long said we needed to legalize it and set up dispensaries before NYC, so that we get the benefit of increased tourism. Imagine if Jersey City or Hoboken had one set up close to a PATH station $$$$$. Imagine AC in a non-COVID summer - we've lost so many neighboring state tourists due to the increase in casinos elsewhere. The bridge from New Hope to Lambertville would be hopping.
I've been to Nevada, Washington and Oregon, all with legal weed and the retail infrastructure set up. Other than Portland being the scummiest place I've ever been, with the weed smell not helping (though I am positive it was like that before legalization), the operations were wonderful and did not seem to be a detriment to the neighboring areas.
If others haven't been, they do not operate like liquor stores, where anyone can go in and grab something off the shelf. The 3 I've been to have been more like high end boutiques, where there is either a bouncer type checking ID (NO under 21s, even with parents) on the sidewalk before you walk in or a vestibule area where they scan your ID and you wait in line. Once in, you receive individualized help to figure out what you are looking for (strains, consumption type, one had a binder of edibles available) and your ID is again checked and scanned during check out. Of course, if you know what you are looking for, just ask for it and be on your way. None of the 3 allowed you to take anything directly from a stand or display. You choose what you want and the employees bring it from the back to the register. They run a tight ship.
Voting no for the aspect as I look at it as a vice that will cause people issues. I really wish cigarettes were illegal when I was a kid as now I have a vice thats been impossible to drop.
Also voting no on question 2. Veterans who served zero war time should not be given $250.
So if they made cigarettes illegal now, you would be fine with being arrested and jailed for smoking them?
Cigarettes are one of the hardest things to quit, if not the hardest. I'm in week 2 of my millionth attempt. Pot though I can stop quite easily for job searches, etc.
The people voting no - know that every child who was poisoned by “edibles” and pot gummy bears in the legal weed states will be thanking you. As will the future kids who will be poisoned if this passes.
It is easier for kids to get illegal weed than legal. Even at age 15, I could buy pot in school or any mall arcade. Booze was much harder to get. Legal weed is regulated and safer as well. Just saying, any kid who wants to get high can do so very easily, I don't see why you'd think legalization would make it easier.
They sure are. I’ve only had edibles three times (a gummy, a lollipop, and a cookie), and each time I underestimated the potency. The cookie I ate in the evening and I was still high when I woke up the next morning. That’s the bad thing about edibles IMO, the high lasts too long.
I don't like the high from edibles, it feels weird to me, foggy in a way. I don't get the energy boost like I do from smoking or vaping. Only tried homemade ones, though (cookies).

I have a feeling NJ law will be ridiculously cumbersome, much more like Massachussetts than Portland or other west coast cities. Still, better than nothing. Glad you said that though. People seem to think kids will be able to go in stores to buy them, or that adults will be able to legally purchase enough to resell, when quantities are severely restricted and as you say, i.d. requirements very stringent. No one is going to chance losing their hard to obtain and expensive license to sell weed to a 17 year old.

one of the big positives of legalization is that it becomes a lot more difficult to manage the black market. so even if you buy the marijuana illegally, what are the cops going to do since you could have bought it legally. i prefer people buy it illegally so the government doesnt get the tax revenue.
and i do think it should be as easy as walking into a convenience store and grabbing one and going. when i went the Massachusetts, it was an old bank and you walk up to the "teller" guy and have to talk to him about what you are interested in. i want to just walk around and look at stuff then grab it.
Kids getting at pot gummies is a parenting problem. Why is it left where kids can get at it?
I will vote for marijuana to be legalized in NJ. It doesn't make any sense for pot to be illegal. Never used edible marijuana myself. I am old school.
I had to read the vets question twice, because at first I missed the point that they are adding these benefits for peacetime vets. My father lost both legs in WWII. He did not pay property tax in NJ, and neither did my mother as his widow.

Yes, the NJ implementation will undoubtedly look like MA. Which is not terrible - I went to one out of curiosity when I was up there and it was a really nice experience. But, the cost is quite a bit higher than one would see on the west coast likely due to a combination of higher taxes and also due to the fact that cannabis is much less of a cottage industry in the east than it is out west, so just much less production capability/scale. The jury is out on what that means wrt eliminating the black market.
Looking forward to voting yes when I drop my ballot off this weekend.

I hope you and the Captain are right and I’m wrong. It looks like this will pass, so we shall see.
