A closing thought: There is a reason that every animal roams where it does: food, water and shelter. When you rid that area of one animal and it becomes open for new taking, something else WILL move in, and chances are its going to be something you dislike even more that what came before it!
And what, pray tell, could be more disliked around a hen house than a rattler? Are snakes known to repel bears, bobcats or coyotes?
Your idea of having one of the reptile lovers relocate any snakes is not a realistic one. Noone is sitting by the phone with baited breath, awaiting a call from God-Knows-Where-NM so they can go relocate a snake for free. Not to mention it'd have to be waylaid in the mean time.
Posts condemning people for protecting those entrusted to their care makes me damned glad SSS is an option.

well if you want us to leave the snakes alone cause they were here longer then maybe you should leave the state cause the Native Americans were here before you. We could do this all day.

i would say you can't be serious, but actually you are serious...I would bet most of us do not enjoy killing anything, but there are times when it needs to be done. Do you feel we should all be vegetarians, and we should allow our homes to be over run with roaches?

Ok, send me your phone number, and I will call you and you can come on down to my 120 acres...and remove all the rattler's you want
...they are quite a problem around here.....oh or maybe I should of "caught" it..and put it into my outbuilding...which is a guest area...and let um get all the mice that invade nightly...but...don't think the guest's would understand that a 42" rattler is just doing his job....
OBTW I got 2 mice in my traps last night....no NOT live traps...these mice can and do carry virus...another unwanted critter...
