"Credit fees may only be collected when (a) an applicant appears to be
otherwise eligible and (b) it is clear that a unit will be available if the
applicant is approved
."

Then they totally violated this provision and you should complain. Really, this is the kind of nonsense they should not be getting away with. For people in the lower income bands, $25 is not a trivial sum.

Meanwhile, I get a call this morning telling me that they've apparently lost at least one of my documents with sensitive information on it and want another document to verify my ID despite having my passport and SS card (and not having asked for it when I was right there at the interview and could have made a copy right away). There are some aspects of running a lottery that seem like they would be difficult and stressful. But basic office administration should not be too much for anyone putting themselves forth to run one of these things.

Your intake specialist isn't going to be able to promise you a darned thing that you could reasonably rely on.

(Also, as irritating as BG has been, hassling random people at the org whose job may actually be trying to house homeless people is not really cool.)
I understand that they interview more candidates than spaces available in the event that applications drop out during the process, but at this late in the game with units already filled, they are likely pulling applications because they have more openings than qualified applicants. I also know from the other 2 lotteries that I have been approved for, the ONLY way to ensure your application is handled properly is to stay on top of things as humanly possible. It doesn't matter who it is; they all work for the same company that's contracted to manage this process. The more you show them you care about what's going on, the more they will care about your application.

Sorry, hassling people who literally have nothing to do with the application process at all because their job is doing street outreach for homeless people is not only uncool, but also unlikely to be effectual. I mean, do you...have a job? If someone calls your company's R&D division to complain about whether they got some retail item shipped, does that actually do anything for them?

I'm irritated at BG, but I've somehow managed to retain enough perspective not to think that a 0.01% chance of improving my lottery chances (if that) is worth harassing people trying to get folks off the street.

Default Good Luck with Breaking Ground!

Lucky for me I just moved in 333 Schermerhorn near by. Good luck to you all dealing with breaking ground.
I have dealt with BG twice already, and its months and months of never ending paperwork submissions, bc your file is missing documents you already handed in, and bc they switch the people handling your file, or they miscalculated your income, which results in appeals. I interviewed with them in January, and we are no further along than when we started. A month after I interviewed there I interviewed with the HUB which is being leased through IMPACCT. We were approved there using the exact same paperwork I gave to BG. They calculated my income at the interview and let me know exactly what I needed to be approved. They were helpful, and explained everything. BG over estimated my income by $17k, 3 different people have handled my files, and I have not received and update my application in over 2 months. The difference in treatment was night and day. Breaking Ground is broken.

So After not being able to reach anyone to schedule an appointment and eventually getting a call saying people had lower log numbers and I'm being waitlisted, I then received an email response Friday confirming my info and asking when I could schedule an appointment. When I got a call back from that, they said that I'd still be waitlisted for the middle income 1 bedrooms since there are no more available, but for the studios I could come in for an interview. Boo.

Yes, I learned today that BG has lost a bunch of my documents. And the person had the nerve to get irritated at ME about it. Classy organization.

I honestly think it would help if people who have a genuine basis for dissatisfaction (NOT just people who didn't get the apartment they wanted, mind you) complained to the relevant housing authority (whether it be HPD or otherwise). BG pretty obviously thinks it can get away with anything--and maybe with its more downtrodden clients it can, but they're not going to change if people with the wherewithal to make (legitimate!) complaints don't. They may not get disqualified from handling affordable marketing, but pressure from complaints might force them to be more careful and respectful in their treatment of applicants.

Like: how many of you had to have those interviews involving a lot of personal information in that big room with other applicants within earshot? Did you know that the marketing handbook directs that interviews are to be conducted in a private location where the information won't be overheard by others?

No, I was in a large room (like small cafeteria-size) and could hear the interviews of two other families going on as I waited and was interviewed. I imagine they could hear mine, as well.

I doubt complaints will get them taken off this project so late in the game (unless they involve way worse behavior than I've actually seen or experienced), but I would really like the project manager to have to be sat down by whoever qualifies the marketing agencies at HPD and explain why they can't run the lottery in compliance with the rules and with minimum competence.
