Hey everyone!
I recently moved into East Building (Studio) and things have been great so far. After approval, the process was super fast.
I'm wondering if we have access to the roof and what floor it's on/where the terraces are? Should have made a note of these things at the viewing but so much info to process.
I'm happy to be a part of The Carolina community and look forward to meeting neighbors!
Lifelong East Harlem resident here, almost at the end of my application process. Excited to be moving into the Carolina!
(I'll admit that I read every page of this thread...what a journey...)
Here's my journey to date:
- I applied back in December 2019 and was issued Log #17xxx.
- I have CB preference and I believe I had municipal preference, too (I work for CUNY, if that counts).
- I was first asked for documents on 11/10, submitted on the 11/17.
- Got approved on Thurs 12/4 after some back and forth (and a brief slowdown due to Thanksgiving).
- At this point I'm still waiting to hear back on my viewing and lease (supposed to hear back week of Monday 12/7).
- I was approved for 1BR @ 50% AMI rate.
- TBD on which building or placement I might be in, my early paperwork didn't have a unit listed on it.
I have a few questions hopefully someone can shed some light on:
1) Are viewings currently being held in-person, or are they still virtual only?
(Saw that someone said as of August they were virtual, but have also read posts implying they viewed in person)
2) How long did you have to wait between getting approved and signing the lease/moving in?
Did you get to set the move-in date?
3) Do you get to view multiple apartments?
Assuming you do, do you then get to give your preferences? Or do you get one "take it or leave it" option only?
4) How thin are the floors/walls with everyday noise?
Like, if people are walking around / watching TV / playing music (not like house party status) above / below / next to you can you clearly hear it?
5) Folks who face the train tracks - how loud is it?
(Is it disruptive during the day, or at night when sleeping, etc.)
6) When the windows are open, do they have mosquito guards/netting of some sort?

Awesome Congrats! If I get approved I think I'll be in a studio as well. Is your studio space enough for a Full or Queen size bed plus bedroom furniture, and a dining table? Or does the kitchen have a bar setup for stools?

Thank you! The space I was assigned is the 420sq ft. I have a full size bed, work desk, sectional couch and a small dining table for 2 with decent space left over for walking around and dividing the apartment around. I think a queen size bed plus bedroom furniture without a desk would have worked fine too, but I wanted to divide the unit with 3 designated areas (living room, work area, and sleeping). All up to you!
My unit has the separate square kitchen, which is pretty spacious and has a lot of cabinet space for storage. There are two large closets, one with shelving installed which I have allocated for linens, cleaning supplies, etc.
Hope this is helpful and wish you the best of luck on this process!
