It's like hating the police but happy they keep a neighborhood feeling safe. Our government should be for the people, made up with our peers....we really shouldn't stray too far from that idea.

See it used to be common people that took to office to represent their area's issues. They were workers who understood what people were going through. We now have very rich people that are far out of touch with what we as citizens need. The idea of states rights are pretty much gone. They want every state to look and feel the same. It's not meant to be that way. Federal laws are supposed to set a general outline and require very little funding to operate. States are the ones that get to dictate what spending makes sense for the tax payers. That's why you have so much anger when the federal government takes your money and spends it elsewhere. That doesn't help you in your state.

I've always have been supportive of ridding ourselves from the massive federal taxes and a return of control over the spending of OUR money in the state we decide to live and work in.

That is actually not true, our government was designed on a strong federal, weak state system in order from having the states have too much power so that they stay dependent on the federal government so that they stay apart of the union. If states had more power, what would stop them from just taking their money and running their own country?

Which is also funny that you would say that people are so angry when the federal government takes money to spend elsewhere...so are you saying that liberals should be angry because it is mostly blue states that support the red states...if red states want to play that game I would be happy to see the blue states have all their money back and see how good that goes for those poorer red states.

Yes, NY and CA are doing amazing. How many times are they close to bankruptcy? And who said red state blue state? Always trying to draw party lines I see. That has gotten us NOWHERE.

And where did you get this information?? Obviously not from history. The Founding Fathers were tired of a system where a King and a central government had power over the country. That they could dictate how we live and tax us as much as they saw fit. They knew a one size fits all for the states wouldn't help the people that live in those states. What works for NY doesn't work for Texas, what works for Montana doesn't work for Florida. They wanted a very limited federal government with checks and balances to ensure the power couldn't be abused.

Now we are a point that we allow the Federal Government to dictate how much money we can have and where the funds should go. That is something that should be setup by state governments if the money has been generated in order to do so. No spending money you don't have. If there isn't enough money to have a universal health care plan, you don't have it. If you overspend on certain areas, you go broke. Just like real life.

I would reread the things that the founding fathers have written about freedom and stop trying to yell and scream about red states. The more they divide us, the easier it is to conquer us.

None of these by themselves do anything, but each STEP, and in conjunction with other initiatives DOES make a difference. Why is this so hard for anyone to understand? They are so busy harping on one thing, and they are missing the bigger picture.

I doubt most people can put all the pieces together to understand the larger picture, but the reality is these are all working together to help us be healthier. THAT IS IT. Why would anyone fight this?
You've got to be kidding!!! So you want to just lay back and have the government tell YOU what you can and cannot eat, drink, and what else!? Why can't you understand THAT?

Tell me SobroGuy... Should marijuana be legalized? Abortions? Cigarettes? Butter? Bacon? Hot fudge sundaes? Sugar? Chocolate Chip Cookies? Donuts? Malted Milk Shakes? Pizza with extra cheese???

Can I fart? Belch? Pick my nose? Have sex with anyone I choose?

Where is the line drawn? How many "STEP"s is too much?

Think about that.

I support LABELs on products, just like cigarettes and alcohol. People still smoke and drink anyway because they have the freedom of CHOICE.

And thus we come to the crux of the matter. If not government in general, then at the very least our Mayor, isn't a big fan of freedom of choice. He prefers monopolies (THERE'S a big surprise!)
