Do you live in a bubble? Simply not true...all over craigslist
All in far away neighborhoods. No place within 40 minutes of Manhattan has comparatively cheap apartments.
But if you know of some, instead of bashing the OP, please LIST these cheap apartments in great locations. Otherwise, you need to shut up. You're not helping the OP by being an ass.
creigslist cannot be trusted. Most of it now are agents who want you to call them. They list inexistent pictures and good price. Once you call, they tell you that the apartment is taken, but they have another one a lot more expensive and so on...

It's easy to get an apartment for $1200 40 minutes from Manhattan. How out of touch does it get? Do you get your real estate info from New York Magazine?

The 1200 apartments listed are in places like Cambria Heights, St. Albans, etc were there is NO SUBWAY. You have to take the bus from Jamaica to get to these neighborhoods in Eastern Queens.
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 1200 gets you a SHARE. In Bedstuy, they are asking for 900 for a share. 1200 will get you a place in ENY Brownsville, both those places are far from Manhattan and are DANGEROUS.
You are not getting an apartment for 1200 dollars that's close to Manhattan and in a safe neighborhood. You just aren't and as noted, this is from CRAIGSLIST.
