As I said, many of the ultra-Orthodox women work, because the men are actually discouraged from working

This.
Not just Hasidic but ultra-Orthodox in general (haredi).

Certain posters in this thread are making anti-Semitic remarks repeatedly. The moderator(s) are refusing to do their job.

Many remain umarried households too so they can get benefits.

Contrary to popular belief a lot of Hasidic Jews are poor. They pool a lot of resources in their communities but per household income many are poor.

Thank you. There is a stereotype that Jews somehow, magically, can never be poor. (to be blunt: that we are all rich)
This is obviously not the case.

It's like some people see a traditionally dressed/obviously Jewish person and imagine they must be wealthy or at least middle class.
Similarly, when they see a Jewish neighborhood, they assume it's a wealthy neighborhood.
(Especially in NYC), that's not necessarily the case.

I have been banned enough already, but name calling is no problem. I know I have won the argument the moment I get called a racist or a Nazi. It's standard operating procedure to the left, can't win so call that guy a racist, sexist, etc. it's boring.
Thanks for sharing.

Welfare eligibility is based on "need" -- on the disparity of income vs. family size. Hasids have many children, so they likely qualify. Of course, if they run cash businesses, they can also keep some of their money off the books, looking poorer than they are. Many groups do this.

But yes, Hasids are good at working the system. This is because standing up to them opens one up to charges of anti-Semitism. The Hasids aren't shy of playing the anti-Semitism card. What politician or journalist wants that? Better to focus on other welfare cheats, and look the other way on Hasids.

So I think Hasids get away with it partially because no one in public life stands up to them.

Conservatives shamelessly bash blacks and Hispanics on welfare, the race card be damned.

Liberals eagerly bash Christian "trailer trash" and "white trash" on welfare. So what if liberals are called "anti-Christian"? Liberals wear it like a badge of pride.

But charges of anti-Semitism are more potent than charges of racism, homophobia, Islamophobia, or "anti-Christian." Why that is, is an interesting topic in itself.

On paper they are poor, in reality they live a conservative middle class lifestyle. They work the system very well in the US and a few countries in Europe. Israel is working on closing the loopholes allowing them to do so, but on the other hand they are the settlers in the West Bank so it's a slight Catch-22. NYC/NYS cannot easily correct the issue due to politics and block voting. There are numerous threads on CD that have covered this and covering it again will change nothing in NYC/NYS.

Wearing blinders and looking at a single individual/family, that is what they want you to see. But when one steps back and see's the group following Socialism then what happens behind closed doors they are not. Perception vs. Reality.
