The NIMBYs always need to be ignored.

More like they couldn't sit Mr. Jeff Bezo's down to make sure the usual suspects got their tastes.

For now the city council will have to be content with whatever Cuomo and BdeB hatched out in private with Amazon. While am sure there must be something in there for the "equality" SJW sorts, am also equally sure it isn't enough.

When Amazon 1st started in Seattle it was the early days of the internet boom and price of real estate hasn't shot up there until the last decade or so. It was easier for them to bring talent to the region but now the Seattle area is completely unaffordable due to their commute options people have to live close to avoid traffic. Now they've chosen LIC, which is already a pricey area it will likely spike up housing around the area even more but I believe it won't create the kind of housing spikes in Seattle area here. Because we have multiple commute options unlike Seattle. You can theoretically live as far as Suffolk and still get into LIC in under an hour. You can live in some parts of NJ and commute to LIC in an hour without driving. So NYC area is unique compare to West Coast in that we have diverse option of getting here and there without being stuck in nightmarish car traffic. I live in NJ but I can still get to LIC by train.

Exactly. They are just a small but vocal minority that are only looking out for their own special interest, which is to keep out other people or companies from coming into their neighborhood. Most regular NY'ers are not NIMBY. People that are supportive are not likely to go out and show their support. Only the people that are against something will be the ones that are motivated to go out and protest.

Agreed. Which is why politically for the most part NIMBY’s are ignored.

Sjws are triggered by everything, yet they still order from Amazon. Lol.

I wonder how many of the 25,000 will be transplants, H1 visas, or transfers from their other office locations

How many low to middle income native New Yorkers will be hired?

They'll hire anyone they can find with the skill they want. The question is now many middle income native NYers have those skills. If they do, they'll do well. Amazon is far from alone.

Probably a majority non-natives, but that's usually the case for major corporate headquarters in NYC anyhow. If you went by locality though, NYC and the tri-state area is generally still vastly "overrepresented" compared to any other metropolitan region in the US and world in these headquarters. Then there's all the services that Amazon will be ordering and then the services these employees will be using which further employ more people and are even more likely to be people already living in the city or tri-state area.
