This was extremely horrific, and there were videos of it. Of course it's not okay for a teen to get killed by a solo person, but this kind of attack is extremely disturbing and perhaps has people thinking what if they or someone they know were victims of this kind of stupid, senseless violence.

It's the brutality of it, and the fact that the kid was a good kid and innocent, not to mention the cowards in the bodega who kicked him out when he asked for help. The entire thing is on video, so there's no mistaking what happened. The kid had no chance with that many people attacking him.

And no one to help him. That he had to resort to walking towards the hospital himself to try to save his own life. In that condition. It's horrific.

Yeah. I couldn't watch the video. Just reading about it was disturbing enough.

The murders like this are why I was so opposed to even the idea of the specialized schools, much less maintaining the status quo. Many of the kids in the city are trapped in schools like this, and specialized schools meant for less than 2 percent of the city (but with much greater resources) clearly are meant to throw most public schools kids under the bus, and essentially help trap people in situations like this. As it is nearly impossible for these kids to move up and out of these hellhole situations. If something like this happened to someone you know who went to school, would you even want to go to school or feel safe doing so?

Public schools are like prisons often, and in the educational system we call it the school to prison pipeline. Horrible conditions in public schools, including zero tolerance policies that get kids arrested and give them criminal records for offenses like having fights or having weed, give them criminal records that permanently remove them from the workforce and end up trapping them in the criminal justice system.

But yeah, some people here don't care because it's all about getting their precious into a top public school where they dream of being able to use it to get their child into Harvard.

Except ooops, if major socioeconomic issue in the city aren't addressed perhaps you kid will get knifed long before they can get into Harvard by this same sort of senseless attack.

I agree with Seventh, give opportunities to earn money for all and not just a few top scoring test takers.

Specialized schools had NOTHING to do with why this kid was slaughtered. If he was in one he still would've been slaughtered. I mean are you trying to say that a 15 year old would be able to move up and out of the ghetto at 15 because they are attending a specialized school? They'll still be living in the hood, so I don't see your point.

Watching the store owners speak live right now on Facebook. Many people said the least they should have did was called the police. It looks like they are saying to the public that they did in fact call the cops!

Enforced mediocrity does nothing to address anything you've mentioned. It's been 60 years since Brown vs Board of Ed and the government educational complex has come up with exactly zero ideas to remedy the structural discrimination and barriers certain communities face other than to hire more "administrators" and boost teacher pensions.

The white upper middle class families you so deeply resent will just pack up for the suburbs as they did before about the 2000s, taking their money and political clout with them. I'd rather have vouchers for low-income families to attend whatever schools they wish.

Btw the owners are claiming they called the cops twice. Of course people are calling them liars but thank god 911 calls are recorded. We shall see!
