Can we end the myth that Europe is a giant San Francisco?

They are largely not to the left of our left (though, politics is way more complex than left vs right).

"Socialist" Denmark and Sweden have low corporate tax rates + closed borders.

That's right. I also remember, Dukakis, Mondale, Gore, Kerry and Clinton. Yippie Yai Yay. Hail to the moderate centrists who lose every time. (B Clinton won because of Perot, and Obama because he ran as a progressive even though he wasn't. The change candidate wins, hence Trump.)

Not sure about your facts above, but Denamark and Sweden have a much broader safety net. You can actually innovate without fear of dying because their medical is covered. I met a kid on DelphiForums 20 years ago. Was in college; going for free. Government paid for his housing, his books etc. It was the norm for Denmark.

There is no “free”. That innovator will later pay 25% sales tax and 50-60% income tax.

What most people don’t realize is that the broader safety net also means a broader tax base. Once you get above a pittance of income you are already paying 20-30% effective income tax.

And? That is the purpose of taxes. I have no problem with it. I have problem when my tax dollars are used funding things that are of no benefit to most people, like wall street golden parachutes.

So move there, if that's what you want. We don't.

They're still not socialist countries. They have low corporate tax rates + not much nationalization of industrty. Many billionaires too.

Also, those countries have small populations, are homogenous, and have closed borders. Not comparable to the USA at all.

Can we end the myth that somehow Denmark and Sweden's tepid brand of pseudo socialism can work anywhere else besides Denmark and Sweden?

Do you have evidence that it is a myth?

Yes, the fact that it's not implemented anywhere similar to the US.
