Adams is in hiding. He was basically on TV everyday for the first few months but his handlers probably told him that there's an inverse relationship between his publicity and approval rating.
It's still too early to call him a failure but it's not looking good. I think he's a bit lost and trying to please too many constituencies. I'm also not sure of what his real positions are. He says things that are completely incongruent with each other.
Truth is, in order to run a city like NYC competently, one either needs to be a capable technocrat like Bloomberg (and hire capable lieutenants) or laser focused like Giuliani on a small number of issues.
Adams is definitely not a technocrat (his lieutenants are far from that either) and he's not laser focused on issues.
