So, I don't know whether to just stay here and keep renting for years to come and hope that I get married or get a huge promotion and pay raise, etc. or what. Too many contingencies. And I'll be 30 years old this year. It's just a shame that I have a graduate degree, make $75K, have no debt, $37K saved up for a home....yet no hopes of even affording any property (house or condo even) in the near future. It's very discouraging and depressing.

And I don't like the NYC influence and fast pace of this area. I want to live in an area that has it's own identity, a slower pace of life, affordable housing, reasonable gay population, four seasons, preferably liberal, and minimal culture shock. And of course, the ability to see my family in the Hartford, CT area at least 4-6 times per year.

Then again, I really like my current job here and the 23 days of PTO I can take per year.
Whatever, dude, relax. No one is reading every single thing you're looking for, because frankly, you don't even have any idea and change them constantly. You were looking in Phoenix like 2 weeks ago, so stop flipping the script and expecting everyone here to cater to your every post.

And cut the dramatics, man. You're telling people how successful you are, and feeling sorry for yourself in the same sentence. And when people have made suggestions, you immediately debate them for reasons of "too many Hispanics" or some other such nonsense. What makes you better than a Hispanic? If you can't afford to live there, why should you? Maybe the Hispanics would like to live in Greenwich too but they can't afford it. I feel so bad for you.

You live and work within the NYC sphere of influence but you don't enjoy the pace or the lifestyle. Costs will always be higher and that is not going to change, only you can.

You want no more than a 30 minute commute, you want only a Tax Accountant position (none-public firm) an Italian presence, not to many Latino's and a Cape Cod house in the burbs. Also add in the above underlined items and all the PTO you currently have.

I would deduce at this time that you will never move, you have expressed failure in previous tries to expand within the accounting field. I have not asked but I will assume CPA is not on your career radar and any diminishment of you income/lifestyle is not worth it even if the long term rewards are greater.

Life is an investment and every so often you have to add to the principal, until you do life will remain as your know it...

I don't want to do CPA work and that is my choice, based on experience. It's just not my preference, and I don't like the 60 hour work weeks that come along with it. My experience. My choice. I like non-public accounting and that's what I want to do. Period. There have been times where I tried to get out of tax accounting and into general accounting, but employers don't want to give me a chance because they can easily find someone else with experience in general accounting. Besides, general accounting pays much less than tax, so that won't even help my financial/housing situation anyway. Do you understand? Corporate tax accounting is a pretty good fit for me.

Also, I feel that a 30 min max commute is very reasonable, given the fact that traffic can, and will easily add at least 15-30 minutes in addition to the 30 minutes. When I say 30 minutes, I mean 30 minutes assuming NO traffic. That means, WITH traffic, it will actually be like 45-60 minutes around here. Do you understand?

I don't care about having an Italian presence so much. I don't speak Italian, I hate cooking, and it's just not that important to me. But it is not my preference to live in a Latino community. Nothing against them, but I am just not that relatable to them in terms of socioeconomic status, class, language spoken and general culture. Wherever the Latinos live, the property values are lower. It's human nature to want to be around people who are similar to ourselves. Sorry, but it's true.

I did not say become a CPA
I did not say become a Public Accountant
You have stated you don't want to either of the above or endure the potential salary reduction migration to General Accounting.
You are hard set in your commute parameters, "do I understand" you sound like a punk on the playground.

Fine forget the Italian thing.

As for the last line we call that segregation down south.....

All I said is with your lack of desire to change any aspect of your life nothing will ever change...

It seems like Rochester typically has the jobs that are most closely aligned with my own background and qualifications.

I don't know what to do. If I get a 3% raise each year over the next four years, then I will be able to afford a nice house/condo here in Norwalk, CT. My income will have increased from $75K to $86K which would help a lot. And a bonus of $11K per year will help me save a total of about $20K per year toward the down payment.

I feel stupid for wanting to relocate purely because of cost of living issues.

The thing is though.....there's barely any jobs in these cities. There's only like one job per city that I actually qualify for. And chances are, they won't even bother to want to interview me, especially being 300+ miles away. When I got my current job, I had applied to 177 job and only got 4 interviews and 1 offer. That was less than a year ago. I can't imagine my odds would be better in WNY, especially with all the people clamoring for jobs out there.

They also ask you for reasons why you want to relocate, and I really don't know how to answer that in a way that makes them want to interview or hire me. They tend to ask questions such as "how well do you know the area?" and "do you have any family here?" or "how long would you plan on staying here?" I know this because I had phone calls from recruiters and employers in other places such as Las Vegas, Dallas and Fort Lauderdale last year. Employers want to see a "real" reason for wanting to relocate instead of just wanting to relocate out of pure personal desire.
