I agree. There are even people who insist that texting while driving is perfectly okay.

I've known many people who insist on drinking and driving, claiming that they have the unique ability to do this a never have a wreck.

Then lets exchange friends, I have some friends that ONLY call when they want to borrow money. I mean its like clock work, when I see their name on my phone, I know what's up.

Never for me and I did it hundreds of times. Not even a close encounter.

However, I think it should be illegal because it's obvious most drivers cannot handle both tasks at the same time.

And when those laws take affect, I'll obey them. I knew there would be backlash to what I posted, but it doesn't bother me. It isn't illegal, I consider myself to be an excellent, and courteous driver, so I'm not changing my ways until the states I drive through force me to. For the record, I never text and drive. That requires taking my eyes off the road. Drink and drive? Never.

I don't talk on the phone in my car, even with a hands-free device. At one time I was more lax, but when I became aware that my children were watching and learning, I started muting my phone and leaving it my bag on the floor behind the passenger seat. It is accessible for the emergencies listed above, but otherwise it's out of sight, out of mind.

Again, the topic at hand is not distracted driving. The OP expressed no concern over the safety of the driver calling him, only the fact that it makes him feel like an afterthought. Whether or not that is true depends entirely on the person making the call, whom we know nothing about.

YES! I have one friend who only calls me when she needs to kill time on public transport, or when she's driving. Or when she's doing the dishes. I can't help but wonder: doesn't this woman ever give anyone her undivided attention? Whatever happened to curling up on the sofa with a phone call to a friend, for a cozy chat? Does no one do that anymore?

You make a good point. I should have paid more attention to the OP's point. One of my brothers often calls me while driving using a hands-free device. It doesn't make me feel like an afterthought. I know it's one of the only times he has to call, and I appreciate the time to catch up on each other's lives.

Well in my case my female friend does that because she has a live in boyfriend. So she knows she can't call me when she is home which is why she only calls when she is driving. It doesn't bother me because I know her situation

Isn't this what call blocking was made for?
