I got a text from my neighbor this morning. My husband and I met her at the fence and she gave us a dozen farm fresh eggs from her hens. I may have an omelet for dinner
I bought a dinner ticket for the National Honor Society fund-raiser to subsidize their trip to Cali and Stanford U. After getting more details I donated money to each student going on the trip.
After I got my eggs I had another friend drop by on her way home from town. She picked up some cookbooks for me at an antique store. She knows I love to read cookbooks.
I shoveled my sister/bil driveway slab and cleared my neighbor's driveway with my snowblower. (It's -12 actual air temp. But feels like -20 with windchill factored in. )
Lately, I've been giving away some of my artwork to actually 3 young men who have been to my apt...2 food delivery guys and one computer tech. On 3 different occasions each one walked out with a piece of artwork they liked...they remarked how much they liked my work, so I say take your choice. They walked out happy, I was too.
I have 3 young fellows in my apt bldg who help with buying groceries and taking back my trash to the alley. I use a walker and it's beyond tough for me. Also one nice lady helps buy stuff too. This help is all since my staph infection knee and hospital/rehabs.... Thanks to all these good people.
I helped someone who doesn't speak English find out where her husband was admitted to a local hospital. I had to call several hospitals.
I was driving on a non busy thoroughfare where people generally drive 45-47 mph in a 40 mph zone. I was going 45 mph, and I usually drive the speed limit. I was focused on getting to a Dr. appt on time. A policeman stopped me and after checking my license gave me a warning instead of a speeding ticket.
I did something nice today. I was riding the R train from Queens to Manhattan and about 10 seats away from me I could sort of overhear a guy (slightly disheveled but not seemingly homeless) asking someone else if he was going the right way. The woman he asked told him something but he still seemed confused. He had unfolded a dog-eared subway map and was sort of asking into the air about the direction of the train, and no one was paying any attention. He seemed lost, literally and figuratively.
I then saw him take something from his bag and take a drink. I thought to myself, if he's drinking alcohol on the train, I'm not helping him. Then I noticed he was actually drinking from a tiny carton of milk! I was getting off at the next stop but thought I might have time to help him.
I got up and went over and asked him where he's going. He pointed to a Bronx location on the map and I told him he was going the right way, he just has to transfer to another train in Manhattan. He seemed grateful.
