Omaha is a hard place to make friends, most of the people have a fireplace poker rammed up their @#$%&*%. Age 30 equals 50 in Omaha. BTW when the Huskers suck the people all but abandon them, they get off on seeing them beat No Name Football University 56-3 and then losing to USC. The best thing about Omaha is when it is 10 below and I am outside and I have the whole town to myself while everyone else is increasing their girth by 5 inches. Taxes blow and the jobs are mostly blue collar, people talk about you behind your back and you do not know what they think about you to your face. The kids can be fun especially the ones that are rebels. Colorado is better, Kansas sucks more, and so does Iowa. West O is very stuck up for no reason, South O has the nicest people, I live in the former. Council Bluffs gets a bad rap, but drive into the Loess Hills, it is nice. Ponca Hills is nice but it is a great place for theft, being that my car got broken into there in 2010 and was never touched when it was parked on 30th St in North O for 8 years at work.

The last post before yours was from September, was it necessary to resurrect this just to vent? It's obvious you're unhappy in Omaha, and I sympathize completely, but you have to try to look at the positives. I am, until I can move somewhere else. It's not worth it to live in misery, and honestly, it's not like Omaha is in some war-torn country. The basic necessities of life are here, but it's not a city for everyone. There are a lot of things I can say about my experiences in Omaha, but it does more damage than good to hold onto such anger. For your sake, try to focus on leaving Omaha (if that's a possibility for you) and moving to a place more suited to your lifestyle. Trust me, the days go by much quicker when you're looking towards the end of the tunnel.

Sadly yes. We've seen this same troll before and this is S.O.P for them.

Likes:

The Old Market
The riverfront (before it was flooded)
The city is safe
It's a great place to raise children
Great steakhouses (Drover, 801 Chophouse, Firebirds, etc)
Two great ballparks (Werner and TD Ameritrade)
Experience all four seasons
Low price of housing
College World Series
A number of good bars/venues (Liv Lounge, Slowdown, The Waiting Room, Mr. Toad, etc)
Top-notch musical acts (Katy Perry, Usher, Kid Rock, Black Keys, etc)
Population is just about right
Proximity to Memorial Stadium
Two-thirds of my family live in the area

Dislikes:

High taxes
The conservative nature of the state as a whole
Harsh winters
The Missouri River (for the time being)
A lack of big cities nearby (excluding Kansas City)
Two-thirds of my family live in the area (this is both good and bad)
The fact that citizens attempt to recall every mayor that gets elected

I don't agree with everything you said, but you're right on about this. It's a shame South O always gets overlooked. Not only are the people in South O extremely nice, but historic 24th street has some of the best food you'll find anywhere in Omaha.

Our family was stationed at Offutt AFB from 2003 until 2008. We complained while we were there - but in hindsight - Omaha was a wonderful place!
Pros:
Parks and Open Spaces - there were so many trails that you could walk, run, and bicycle
Shopping - there are so many shopping options between Oak View Mall, Westroads Mall, and Village Pointe
Downtown Omaha - very quaint with great dining options and shops
Proximity to Airport - best airport hands down! Easy to get to and park. Airport itself is small and easy to get around. You don't have to worry about missing your flight unless you are just late all the time
Fireworks - best fireworks I've seen. Rivals fireworks at the National Monument in DC. Our family loved going downtown for New Year's Eve fireworks show. My husband loved being able to hit up fireworks stands and setting them off with our neighbors
Millard Schools - wonderful schools
Amazing Hospitals - not only did we have the military hospital - but the local hospitals were great! Particularly fond of Bergan Mercy Medical Center where we had our children
Dining - has some of the best dining options! We could eat French food downtown, or hit up a Greek restaurant midtown. Mongolian grills, Zio's pizza - so much to choose from!
Henry Doorly Zoo and College World Series - amazing zoo! Probably one of the best in the country. Come springtime - the CWS is fun to attend!

Cons:
Weather - ironic that was our job in the military - Omaha has the worst weather! Hot, humid summers with strong thunderstorms and tornado risk. Cold, snowy, and gusty winters that lasted longer than was welcome. I always loved the strong cold winds when it was already cold and barely a breeze to be felt during the muggy summer
Spiders - worst spider situation I've ever encountered. The large Christmas type trees housed hundreds of spiders. We'd park our car in our driveway in the evening and come morning time - we'd have multiple spider webs from the front yard tree to our cars
Isolation - I suppose there's a reason why there's a lot there. Closest large cities - Kansas City, MO, Des Moines, IA, Denver, CO - are all several hours driving time. It would always cost $400 or more p/p for airfare to visit our families
Taxes - not quite sure what the deal is but taxes are pretty high which almost negate the low cost of homes

Good list although the weather statement caught me off guard.

Our summer heat index is incredibly average during the summer. We jave the 176th warmest summer out of 370 cities.Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

We also average 26 inches of snow a year, most falling between December and February. Our average snowfall in the other months is like 2.5 inches.

Average highs
July 86
August 85
June 84
September 79
May 75
October 65
April 64
March 52
November 50
February 40
December 36
January 34

Snowfall 26 inches
Precipitation 29 inches

Taxes.. an independent tax organization compiles state and local taxes for every location in the nation. Our taxes are .4% LOWER than the national average.

It gets cold in Omaha. If you don't feel like reading the link it has Omaha as the 5th coldest "major city" and Lincoln comes in at 7th. I think that most people who re-locate to Omaha from other places would say that it gets really chilly as well as windy during winter.

Who said it doesnt? I was referencing the snow and summer weather. I never refuted the cold. 34 is our average january temperature which means the first deviation is 24-44, the second is 14-54.

The thing is that when there are so many sub-freezing days in Omaha, the snow does not melt. So even if it only snows 4 inches one night, that snow could potentially be on the ground for a few weeks. Especially since it snows about once a week
during December through February. Also, the city does a really poor job of keeping the roads plowed. Some winters in Omaha aren't bad at all, but they can also be miserable (2009 was my last winter in Omaha).

Also, saying that Omaha summers are average is true........when you compare it to every city in the US. Most of those cities that are in the top 100 on the list are located in the south. Everyone knows that cities in Texas, Louisiana and Arizona are going to be warmer then cities in Nebraska. Duh. Comparing Omaha to other places in the Midwest would be more relevant then comparing Omaha to cities all over the country.
