My '73 Comet was rusted out so badly ... My little sister borrowed the car, and when she went to hit the dimmer switch, her foot went through the floorboard. The poor kid really freaked!
And around the fenders. That was from putting salt on the roads. I know what ya mean....I'm from Mich.

Car phones. They were actual units installed in your car like a tape or CD player.

My first car was a '65 Ford Fairlane. I had passengers who thought it was pretty neat that I had "intermittent" or multi-speed wipers. All I had to do was remember to just touch the little pedal on the floor that operated the windshield washer and the wiper blades would make a pass across the windshield. If I pushed it too hard though, the washer fluid would spray out and the secret was out of the bag. The pedal was right next to the dimmer switch. I don't know how many times I washed my windshield when I intended to dim my headlights.

No. Car phones--or mobile phones, I think they were called, at first--were actual phone units installed in cars and you used them like a regular telephone. Just dial your number and the phone would start ringing. This was before cell phone towers came into existence.
