My sister has been studying our family history for about the last 2 years, it's quite revealing (), anyway yesterday we connected with a relative that has the given first name of IceQueen! How funny is that?

Morning Zimbo!

IceQueen....that's ..... different. I can think of many different inferences for a name like that. Wonder what the actual thought/meaning behind it was?

Family history is very interesting. I know my father is very active in researching our family history. In some places he can get it back to the 1600's...He travels from time to time just to meet up with people he's connected with. I have mentioned to him that I hope he's putting it all in a book (Ancestry.com I think has ways to do this complete with timelines and pictures). I told him he should do that, print one up for each of us (kids, grandkids) and call that our Christmas present one year. My fear is it's all on a hard drive and I'll have to try to decipher it all one day....

I really really need to get some housework done today. I piddled the day away yesterday....

Good morning MM! My sister has put it all on Ancestry.com. The great thing about doing it that way is that you can connect with others researching the same names, and can share documents, pictures, etc., she has discovered loads of information that way. DH has done a lot of work on his family too, the major difference being there were virtually no records kept of indigenous africans, except for baptism records, and people were baptised anywhere from birth to 25, so we don't have accurate birthdates for many of his relatives. It really is fascinating though.

Have you ever seen that show hosted by Lisa Kudrow? I forget what it's called but it traces the ancestors of well known people. It really is interesting - and sometimes heartbreaking...

Yes - I'm pretty sure my dad has it all on Ancestry.com also. I'd just really like to have a hard copy to peruse. And that way everyone could have copies of the documentation, family pictures etc. That really is a brilliant concept. For all the carp you hear about the internet, it really has wonderful and interesting applications too doesn't it?

My father's brother researched our family tree for that side of the family in the 80s. At one point, he thought it was heading in the direction of a connection to Jesse James because there is a James from Missouri in our family tree. I just thought it was the coolest thing and was telling everyone. One day, my mother was annoyed and told me it wasn't something to be proud of. LOL. Anyways, his further research ruled out a direct connection, and my mother was relieved!

There are quite a few different shows now. Some trace records, and some trace DNA. Both equally fascinating.

The standing joke in my family is that my mother and her father were both under 5 ft, jet black hair, fairly dark skin, green eyes, they look completely Middle-Eastern but swear it's the Scottish blood. Umm, yeah, okay. So needless to say I think my mom is a little anxious to see what my sister finds.
