In other words, it isn't a sign of anything new happening that you didn't already know about.
Well, that's a relief.

I don't see that as a reason to sell the car. After all, you knew what it would cost to insure an 18 year old when you bought the car and that bagging groceries is a typical student job. Surely you took insurance costs and his job possibilities into consideration when you bought it.

If there's no bus service where you live, that's all the more reason to keep it. Many parents find that it's less of a hassle to have their children driving because that's less driving the parents have to do transporting them to college and work. Plus, seeing it sit there until he becomes more responsible financially can be inspiration to get his act together.

I'm glad I could help with that at least.

Buy him a bike. Make him fill out job applications. You can sit by him but he needs to be doing that. It sounds like you are enabling him by imposing little to no consequence.

He will only get away with what you allow.

I know this wont be popular but as my dad used to say put your foot down or put your foot up his rear end . He has no consequences for his actions and he is walking all over you and you are letting him . If he does not like the rules at your house and he is 18 , then tell him to do a ray charles , hit the road jack and dont come back . When faced with that most kids straighten up real quick .

Again I'll ask....where is this boy's father? At this point he needs a man to teach him how to be a man - and he's in sore need of some catching up.

He does have consequences, believe me but I am not going to list them. I have several people seeing the car today. Regarding insurance, we have three cars and insurance is not expensive but it will be when he has his own policy. He is on my policy right now. I just put him back on last weekend. He can drive to school in one of our other cars...just not his own anymore.
His Dad is involved with discipline as well.
