I know the national drinking age is 21 but in some states like mine(Texas) parents can give their children alcohol in the privacy of their own home.So would you do that in your house if it was legal in your jurisdiction???I know some people think it will teach their kids to be responsible drinkers but the data and medical studies that i have seen indicates that it increases the likelihood of them becoming alcoholics. Also i know some people let their little kids have sips of beer or wine but no more than that untill they are teenagers or 20.Thanks in advance.
Yes, I'd let them drink responsibly in our home if it was legal. We went to Canada on a family trip when our daughter was 19. She was legally permitted to drink beer there at that age. We went again a few years later when our son was 19. They both had their first legal drinks there with meals. Given they were in college I'm certain it wasn't their first drink.
Yes. If they are drinking anyway might as well do it safety. The more you forbid and make something taboo, the more they want to do it. IMO if one is legally an adult at 18 they should be able to drink like other adults. If they are mature enough to vote, go to war, enter contracts, get married, have kids, support themselves and make decisions they should be able to have a beer or glass of wine.
I don't know what I would do as I've had issues with alcohol and alcoholism runs in my family. I am kind of afraid to allow my kids to drink ever...but I know it's going to happen. I never drank in high school, but went a little nuts in college when my parents weren't around. I cant see serving alcohol to my kids to be the answer.

At some point I will have to have a convo with my kids that alcohol might affect them differently than it does other people. I dont want them to find out the hard way. But they will likely not care what i tell them if they really want to try it.
The laws of my home trump the laws of my state. My children are being taught to appreciate alcohol for what it is - a gift from God that should not be abused.
Anyway it's not something that would be wise to advertise if you do because you will become a news story and subject to life altering consequences.
I don't think any news source cares about a parent giving their adult children alcohol in the privacy of their own home. I've never even seen a news story about younger kids being given alcohol by their parents. As long as you are not giving your children excessive amounts of alcohol, throwing leggers for their friends, or letting them drive drunk, no one will care what you do.
I was raised in an Italian family and had my first sip of wine at my third birthday party, so legal or not, what do YOU think I'd say?
