Please obey the law.
It is not acceptable in modern society to spank children.
I am very anti-spanking/hitting/beating children...but unfortunately, it is still legal in many areas for parents to beat their kids to a certain point.
Telling a parent to 'obey the law' is just giving them permission to beat their kids in many areas. It's better to explain why they don't have to hit children to teach them manners, morals and how to behave.
It's always shocking to me how many adults think the only way to teach is to abuse and scare children. I'll never figure that out since I know it's not accurate.

Nope. I would never physically punish my child. I don't like violence. In our house, hands are for helping, hugging, playing music, loving, etc.
Belts are for holding up pants, slippers are for footwear, rulers are for measuring and paddles are for cooking pizza, at least in this house
We like it that way.
& to answer the question, I don't know about most children, but it wouldn't teach my son anything positive. I just think any sort of hitting is pointless and that's not how I want to guide my son.

Depends on how the child takes it. If they are taught theyre being spanked because they did wrong and theyre getting punished for it then it does wonders. However, if theyre left to think "Mommy and Daddy hit me; I hate em" then it wont do a bit of good.
Getting smacked didn't teach me anything, except well, to avoid being caught next time. It was always talking about what I did wrong that made me realise it was wrong - I had to know the reason not just be told its wrong and that's that. I definitely preferred to get smacked though, there's something rather devastating about realising how much you're disappointed your parents which I would realise when they talked instead of smacking.
Its against the law here - my ex tried to claim that I smacked our daughter and there was an investigation.
It's a shame the things that ex-partners will do to each other with their children. (If you didn't do it.) But I really like a law that doesn't let parents hit their kids. There is simply now call for it.
Adults would be screaming all over place it was legal for bosses, family and co-workers to hit them.

OMG you've got to be kidding. Do you think a young child actually knows the difference? Pain is pain and humiliation is humiliation no matter what the beater is telling the kid.
