So here we are in the love scene in "300" and to the side I'm hearing "Shhh, shhhh," ugh!

I'm sure I sound insensitive when I say this but come on moms and dads, is it really appropriate to bring your infant kid to a loud movie where it's almost impossible for them not to start crying?

Going to SP3, there were a lot of older kids, too, that shouldn't have been there, IMO, but every parent has the right to raise their kids how they want to raise them. If they think 4 and 5 year olds can go watch the movie, so be it, I'm ok with that. I even think it's cute that in sheer excitement they narrate what's happening to the characters in the movie while we're all watching the movie! I was probably a little sarcastic in this paragraph but honestly, I am OK with it, if it's an appropriate movie.

I'm not even going to start about teenagers and their behaviour in theatres nowadays! Am I being waaaaay to insensitive here about parents bringing their babies? I know it's hard to get a baby-sitter and all that but with movies coming out in 6 months on DVD nowadays, can't you guys wait just a little longer so the rest of us can watch our movies in peace?

Oh boy ... I can feel the angry messages I'm about to get ....
Well, you won't get an angry message from me because I totally agree with you. You spent money on a ticket to enjoy a movie. You are entitled to enjoy that movie - free of screaming kids. I've been in movie theaters before when the staff will actually come in and ask someone to take their child outside of the theater so that the rest of us paying customers could enjoy the movie.

Well, we all seem to agree! I wonder if there are any CD posters that are just too embarrassed to post here though. I was totally expecting people to admonish me for not "understanding"!

The movie theatre you mentioned where the employees tell the patrons to take their screaming kids outside, I'd like me one of those please!

Hello there... I am a mama who took my baby to the movies... but only when she was very tiny and could nap in a front-facing baby carrier strapped close to my chest. When she got bigger and could understand and stay awake during movies, I refrained from going to the movies. And I agree with other posters here that good money is paid for the ability to watch and enjoy a movie in peace, free from noisy children of all ages (yes, that includes the business dude on the cell phone). In general, I think people just don't have manners anymore. P.S. My daughter is now 4 and her behavior has just gotten worse than the terrible 2's. Do I take her to the movies? Heck no.

We stopped going to movies several years ago because of children and rude behavior in the theaters. I miss the big screen but I'd rather enjoy the movie in my own space. We also don't eat in chain restaurants for the same reason.

I totally agree with you all. I rarely get to the movies these days because I have two little ones. So when I finally get to go (which is very rare), I find it very rude for someone to bring a baby into an "adult" movie. (I don't mean G rated kid's movies).

The baby will always cry at some point, and it's just disturbing and unfair to those around them. We got a sitter, and when we couldn't we didn't go.

IMHO, people with babies and young children should stay home and keep their little ones out of nasty movie theatres. Taking a toddler to a park is much fun for him or her; being stuck in a dark theatre only shows that the parent is selfish and wants to be there. Of course they're going to cry; they're miserable.

I haven't been to a theatre in 20 years but only because I find it a waste of time. If people are so ignorant to take their poor little ones there and others don't like it when a child is unhappy and crying, don't go. Easy solution to this problem.

Um, IMHO that is a very poor solution.
I *have* shushed a few people at theaters.
Theater behavior in general has slid downhill, but some places do endeavor to create a more enjoyable atmosphere.
I appreciate this, because I do think some movies are best viewed on the big screen.
Not everyone thinks theater-going is a waste of time; it is unfair to let bad parents (or anyone else) ruin it.

I don't know if this is the best way to handle this. There are always going to be things we don't like - the way people drive, loud noises at restaurants, etc. Just because of a few clueless people we shouldn't all be forced to not go out of our homes. Those of us who are paying customers who enjoy going to the movies or to restaurants, etc. have just as much right to partake of those activities as people with screaming kids. We won't be held hostage by these people.

Twinkle Toes and cil.....

I do agree with you and as I said, I haven't been to a theatre in 20 years, but someone mentioned that a theatre employee told them there wasn't really a rule by about this. This is why I mentioned to stay home. If the problem weren't fixed by the management, I would stay home rather than "endure the pain." I just would find it unpleasant and if it couldn't be fixed, I'd move on. That's just me though.
