Now, the response saying that the building is ugly starting in 3...2....1...
Waaaay nicer than the old building and it still fits in with the general scheme of that area.

The Marketplace Design Center, Philadelphia’s premier destination for interior design, may soon have itself a major makeover. Sources tell Hidden City that Bart Blatstein’s Tower Investments, Inc. is in the process of purchasing the enormous complex at 2400 Market Street.

The Design Center, which has been in the building since 1975, would remain, but additional retail and residential components would be added. One potential development, sources tell us, would be the construction of a new multi-story tower on top of the existing building, set back and in the center, creating a 360º terrace.

I agree.
I think it is nicer. It is definitely an upgrade!

Talking about Blatstein; does anybody knows what happens with that war on who will get the last coveted permit to build a casino in PhillY?

"There will be 3 or 4 large buildings proceeding along the site from north to south. The buildings as currently envisioned will be 500,000, 500,000, and 130,000 square feet and probably 30 to 40 stories tall."

It's looking like Wynn will get it, and for good reason, his proposal is the best.

I'll be happy if there isn't one in Center City.

I don't particularly like that area, but all the buildings have a general structure to them and I never think it wise to build a building that doesn't mesh properly with its surroundings. The more stylish you can make it while still fitting into context the better, and I think they accomplished that. The other building was not lovely, and this one definitely has more to it to please the eyes. As my pal tintin says, some people just don't get it...
