Ethics violations, stolen valor, gun charges, false accusations of criminals. Sounds like a real winner.

Another notable difference is our crowded Democratic field. As far as I am aware, Philadelphia does not go into a runoff for the primaries, does it? So someone can clinch the Democratic nomination with a simple plurality, right?

Who, Oh? I'm not commenting in support of him, I'm asking if Republicans have the sense to vote in the democratic primary and not just for the Republican candidate.

We have closed primaries, meaning you may only vote for the candidates of the party in which you are a member. A Republican would need to change their registration to Democrat to vote for a D in the primary so by definition, would no longer be a Republican....so it's not a matter of "sense".

Right, and I believe Independents can't vote in primaries; there's supposed to be some legislation or push to allow ''unaffiliated'' registrants to vote in primaries, otherwise, they're out currently as well.

I didn't mean that as a slight toward Republicans, I meant having the sense to vote for who they'd view as the least of the evils. I'll be voting David Oh if Gym wins the Democratic primary. That said, I moved here in 2020 and didn't realize the primaries were closed. Thanks!

How to win an election in 2023: play the race card, or victim card, if you're eligible (pretty much anyone other than white males), seals the deal for white liberals and progressives for sure despite anyone dealing said cards qualifications and backgrounds.

Regarding the Chicago mayoral win, from the WSJ 4/6/23:

The Chicago runoff was a battle between the moderate and progressive wings of the Democratic Party, and the left won despite public frustration over rising crime and failing schools. Brandon Johnson’s victory means the city’s decline as a laboratory for progressive governance will continue, and more companies will consider following the recent exits of Caterpillar, Boeing and Citadel.

''He also played the race card against Paul Vallas, a former Chicago schools CEO. In the final days of the race, Mr. Johnson dunned his opponent for “being dismissive of a black man who taught for four years in Chicago Public Schools.” Any criticism of his crime agenda was tagged as “yet another attack on a black man as an elected leader.” It was a false and divisive charge, but it worked."

Philly faces many of the same issues as Chicago and we're looking at a primary battle between the moderate and progressive wings of the Democratic Party as well. The crime and failing public schools issues. Philly doesn't have Chicago-level corporate presence, yet is at risk of losing some of its existing corporate/business presence. Philly certainly has a progressive presence in local government and leadership, but a true progressive has yet to secure the mayor's seat=Philly's ''progressive moderate'', and look at the issues its facing. Chicago is ''progressive strong'' and heading into an even steeper free fall.

The race card is, well, the race card, played as needed and effectively played in Chicago. Let's not deny that the race card can be a broadly used yet illegitimate tactic (some national election examples include, our current VP used on our current President when both were 2020 candidates; used on the Clintons in 2008 to get rid of HRC standing in Obama's way); a potential in Philly's primary race but will be interesting to perhaps see in the final campaign.

Chicago's Teachers' Union has a stranglehold there with its lackey heading to the mayor's seat on 5/15. The new mayor there had to pay his $3,000 water bill balance before the 4/4 election; he paid it on 3/31...hope the payment cleared.

Certainly hope all our mayoral candidates are current on at least their financial obligations to the city; would only be an issue though depending who might be delinquent.

The company I work for just announced earlier this year of long term plans to move to a new larger building in center city and consolidate several operations around the area in it, added hundreds of positions to the Philadelphia office. Go figure.

That's great. Philly needs all the jobs it can get into the city.
