We moved here in 1979 and they were still there then.

Oh man, I loved Victoria Station! Best bbq beef ribs I have ever eaten. So popular during its day that you could wait over an hour to get in on a Friday night.

What about the airplane restaurant that jutted out over the ice rink at Metrocenter? Never ate there, but always wanted to and now it's way too late!

That was the Aero Lounge, a bar where the waitresses wore a stewardess 'flight attendant' uniform.

I went there once or twice back in '83. It was kind of cool but it was also cramped and expensive...just like a real plane.

Camelback Rd and I-17 through the years, between 1930 and 1969.
Notice the farmland slowly give way to urban sprawl and modern transportation.

But for the watermarks, historicalaerials.com is fun, but if you're just checking out metro Phoenix, try FCDMC--GIS: Aerial Photography Map for unencumbered overhead shots. Sadly, not all years are included (I found it to be hit and miss) and it runs mainly on IE (sorry Firefox users unless you can locate the plug-in).

Suddenly, between 1964 and 1969, Rudolph Chevrolet, Bill Luke Chrysler/Plymouth and Peagler's New Dodge City appear! Now, only Bill Luke survives.

Uh yep...back in the '70's when they first opened Metro Center...tequila sunrises while watching the skaters. Metro Center was such a nice mall back then. I drove through there a year ago and had no desire to even get out of the car...the neighborhood is a bit scary these days.

I would say that only half of the mall is occupied.
