went and looked at that intersection via historicaerials.com and found a 1957 picture of the area....was Cudia City across (north of) the canal on the west side of 40th??....I can see something that might be it...according to the links here, it was abandoned by the 1960s and burned in 1967

certainly has changed....office buildings and apartments all over there now....

thanks for the earlier picture, desert....utterly impossible to see any evidence of it now....may have to go to Chelsea's Kitchen (the old North Bank restaurant) for lunch some day and look to the north a few feet at what was once there

I worked at the Burger Chef at 69th St. and McDowell. It was just west of Western Honda before they moved and the old Max of Switzerland. Nothing but fields on the north side of McDowell except maybe an old bar.

I remember vaguely my dad pointing out the studio at one time, a fairly large (my standards then...I think I was still a tad young then) pinkish colored building.
There are some who have never known of Cudia City. I once emailed the Phoenix Film Commission, asking about a film studio that was located at 40th Street and Camelback at one time (the studio name escaped me then). Their response was on the order of "we have no idea to what you are asking about...". After a short Google session, I was able to locate information concerning Cudia. Being the upstanding resident of Phoenix as I am, I sent the PFC the link I found and they responded graciously.

The street "Cudia Way" and subdivision Cudia City Estates is a tribute to the studio .

This popped up on the front page so I thought I'd answer.

Lived in Phoenix in the '70's when I was 3 to 7 years old or so. I remember very frickin hot weather.

Our house had a desert landscape in front that my parents put in along with a couple of the neighbors. Full cactus and gravel. I remember I managed to sit down on a saguaro once when I was pulling on a hose and fell back onto it, lol. I think we dug up one of the cactus illegally out in the desert, shhh.

I attended Arroyo Grande school, and being able to go to the Jack in the Box on dads payday was a special treat.

I also remember touring the American FreedomTrain on field trip in 1976 in first grade.
