It is a great list, hope it keeps growing.

There was a big 1964 campaign rally at Phx Muni Stadium, with Barry riding around the warning track of the ball field in a convertible. Either that car or another one, (memory is vague, I was only 11 or 12) was completely covered with Goldwater bumper stickers, including the famous "Au H2O" one. And I mean competely covered; there wasn't a square inch of paint visible on the car.

Futher back in time, during the 1960 election, my Cub Scout den did our civic duty by dressing up in clown costumes and parading around the neighborhood with noisemakers and "Get Out and Vote" placards.

While we were making the signs, one kid asked the denmother "Can I put Vote for Kennedy on the sign?" No, said the denmother. "Well, I guess I could write Kennedy on one side and Nixon on the other." Denmother vetoed that too.

Channel 8 had Arizona Memories of the 60's and Arizona Memories of the 70's on tonight. Talk about trips down memory lane. If you haven't seen those programs, I recommend them!

Default Courtsey Chevrolet 1962

The searchlights along Camelback Road (west of 16th Street) when the new model cars came out.

Are you thinking of Courtsey Chevrolet? (1233 E Camelback.)
Heres a shot from 1962.
You can just see the big "arrow" sign on the far left. Its all still there.

Greetings all, I'm a born and raised Phoenician.
Just found this chat site.

From what I have read has brought back memories.
Shea Blvd being a two-lane strip from just west of 32nd street to just past the then entrance to Taliesin West. It continued as a dirt trail towards the now Fountain Hills area.
The entrance to Taliesin was a dirt road that came very close to deep washes.

I remember seeing a snowcap on the McDowell Mountains.
Without houses!

Treat me well. I'm new.

Off to make a sandwich.
72 pages of posts will take a while to read...

Cloud 9
A Zombie
Hattie Mosher's tea house
The colored lights on top the building at Van Buren & 1st Ave.
The dirty duck
The real Blakely Rocket you could walk through
Pullman Pie

Does anyone remember watching the comercial with the go-go girls dancing in front of the cars? I danced at the Steak House on central and Courtesy came in one night and asked the three of us (Velvet Wood) Miss Cotton and another girl, think her name was Billie and I if we wanted to make the comercial, Gee we really had to think long and hard before we told them yes.

A 'Flume' sounds like a giant water slide or a hiking trail but never heard of it before.

Here's another one I forgot about. the 3 wheel Davis car. When I was a kid, there was the remains of an old outdoor cement bowling alley in Phoenix, probably from the 1930's. They were demonstrating the 3 wheel Davis car at the site in 1948. They would drive that thing in tight circles to prove it would not tip over; you could hear the tires squealing for blocks. It was not a small car, it only had one seat but you could get 4 adults across in it.

Forgive me for expressing an opinion, I try to stay out of politics, but it seems every time channel 8 does a decade of memories, they just can't help but kind of dwell on discrimination of minorities and women in Phoenix. That is fine, I know all this, but would like to see more old photos and reminiscing, not a lecture.

And; what you described was not just a 'Phx' problem------------especially factoring in that segregation against at least Blacks/'brown' Hispanics/American Indians (White Mexicans, etc. were counted as simply 'White') was ended ca. 1953 here whereas it was still a issue in places like Arlington, Va. till 1966.
