A kids show that fascinated me as a kid was "Diver Dan" - very odd show with a host in a hard hat, fish puppets, and a mermaid lady. It was on the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, along with Romper Room.
How about Tom Terrific ? He wore a funnel for a hat and was able to see vast distances while peering through it. The villian in this series was ... hold onto your hat...wait for it.... The Master Cylinder!

There was a TV show in the early 50's, first woman's show, called Cook's Corner starring Ruth Dunlop. She is just about the last person on earth that you would expect on a television cooking show. She was thin as a beanstalk and looked like a grammar school librarian. One hilarious show had an cowboy on showing her how to make range stew. She almost fainted when he started cutting up the cow guts. After the stew was finished she refused to taste it. The cowboy was laughing the whole time.

Here's one more Bekins memory -- another cheesy ad jingle on my P & M's radio station:

"In the moving business Bekins men are pros ...
And prose beats poetry
In moving!"

Part of that song said that if Bekins had been around in antiquity, "Venus would have arms ... Graceful and long!"

Verily hast thou said it! Missed the Omar Sharif gaffe, but surely not the putzitude. I remember that his station, KTAR (later KPNX) Channel 12 was perpetually doing editorials with manager C.E. "Pep" Cooney. On the pitifully few occasions when they aired an opposing viewpoint, the opposer would be dressed terribly and the screen would ominously flash "OPPOSITION TO A KPNX EDITORIAL" -- as if to imply this was some sort of offense.

Wow, I was thinking of that yesterday.
Yes, I remember it.

Anyone remember the time tone that KPHO would send out at the top of every hour?
Legal ID, tone and the infamous jazzy intro to the Dick Van Dyke Show.

Mag's Ham Bun?
Anyone?
The old town Scottsdale location was jokingly referred as an extension of Scottsdale City Hall.
Mayor and Council members would meet there and discuss some city business over a ham bun, chips and drink.
My family would visit the Scottsdale Rd and Shea location and get six ham buns to go.
"Six bunnies hoppin'!" (six buns to go).

That would be Governor Jack Williams, closing his radio talks on KOY-AM, where he had been employed at one time, as I recall.

Mag's Ham Bun. Yum. Sigh. . . .
