I can't imagine what 120 feels like - but then we have higher humidity. Last year it got to 114 a couple of times and I like to have died. It's supposed to hit 100 here by the end of the week and our humidity is likely to be between 50 and 70 percent.

Is it my imagination or did summer start a lot earlier this year?

Good luck. My suggestions are: pool, beer, air conditioning, all cotton clothing.
Summer started late here..only like a week ago

I don't mind the heat... But I literally physically can't handle extreme humidity with high heat... I understand it would change if I had to get used to it... But not being used to it is unbearable. I was in suburbs of Chicago one summer - ambient temps in the 90s and humidity in the 90s - there was a neighborhood pig roast that I was looking forward to attending with family, and couldn't stay out longer than 10 minutes... The hottest dry heat I've been in is 110 (or so), and it's no problem. Dry is definitely more bearable.
Dry heat is still heat!! It was 87 and fairly dry today and felt really hot! I have been in 110 degree weather a couple times before and it's awful..

The pool was a perfect 85 degrees today. With 4% humidity, it was actually CHILLY to get out, even at 118.

That's the temp a pool has to be for me to go in it!

That chill sensation you felt was because of the dryness. Evaporative cooling taking place on your skin.

Believe me, when it's 100 in Portland, you'll be sweating like crazy and can't even breath. I'll take this furnace winds over no winds at 3PM and 4PM and some humidity with very strong beaming sun. Go to Portland in Aug/Sept in a heatwave, and you'll be wishing for your heatwave instead. The hot air is thrown in from Central Valley, CA after they suffer 110 plus in Redding/Red Bluff. It's just bleeding very hot air into Pacific Northwest and makes it so hot in later afternoon with absolutely no wind at all, maybe a south wind at 1 mile an hour once in a while.

That SE wind needed to start the monsoonal flow not in the 15 day forecast. These temps are never this prolonged. In fact, August of 2013 is the record for 7 straight days over 110. If this 15 day forecast holds up, this will more than double the record of 7 days over 110. Yesterday and today already met that so with 15 more, that is 17 days over 110. The El Nino resulting in the cool wet May is delaying the monsoon big time. These temps sustained for this length of time is unprecedented and quite frankly insane. Yet, the arm chair heat lovers will tell me to toughen up.

Not an accurate reading being on metal but this coming stretch again is insane. We handle 115's a couple days at a time but it rarely sustains itself for weeks like the forecast says.
