Just can't believe they are tearing down Bill & Ted's mall...Where are Napoleon and the Royal Dead Dude supposed to hang out now?

Lame excuse! People always cite the summer heat as the major reason for why the Phoenix area can't land a major theme park ... however, the same people are usually the ones who claim that Phoenix's heat is tolerable because it's dry. Sorry, it can't be both ways. Even if the heat is a factor, a theme park that has water based activity outside and amusement rides inside could easily work.

It's kind of humorous to hear all the claims about how a theme park wouldn't do well here because of the heat, but people don't seem to mind multitudes of WalMart, Target, and Costco supercenters where cars are parked outside in the heat for an extended period of time. Isn't it ironic, don't you think?

I think it's strange they are building a Wal-Mart there. There are lots of other Wal-Marts around that area. They should just reconstruct the mall instead of completely getting rid of it. A lot of kids and teens go to Castles N' Coasters so it would be a good idea to keep the mall around. There's a lot of good stuff around that area like the Cholla library so they should just add in more stores and advertise.

Who is they? The demographics have changed to where the area can't support a mall of that magnitude. Tearing it down and rebuilding it makes no sense. The mall will still be unable to attract tenants that people with disposable income want. The mall has outlived its purpose and now it's time to move on.

What's funny is that the mall is not being torn down at all. This is a rumor that people have run wild with.

Correct. It's not like Metrocenter is ever going to become another Scottsdale Fashion Square.

there is 19th ave and Bell, 51st ave and Northern, 35th ave and Bethany Home, or (the closest one would probably be), Dunlap and Central. At least 3 miles to the nearest other ones. Considering, this has got to be a prime location right off the i17, I think its almost a perfect location.

I also can't think of where there is a Mcdonalds in the area, unless I'm missing one nearby somewhere; I GUARANTEE there will be one inside, and possibly a joint venture.

Agreed, the mixed office space sounds like a terrible idea that won't be used any more than metro center. Use that space and expand Castles and Coasters.

Not me. The owners of the property have a completely different concept completed on the drawing board. No amusement park, sorry.

It's not just planned for office space, as the plan described in the link in the first post indicates. It's a vast improvement over a dead mall.

I think the closest McDonald's at this point is at 43rd and Peoria, not sure if I have the east-west cross street right.

I went and looked. I completely forgot the closest one is at 35th ave and Peoria. That's got to be no more than a mile away, and I STILL THINK they will put one inside.
