You might have a problem with comprehension, as I clearly stated they are NOT the same, and never said I equated them..please work on your comprehension before refuting every thing I post on this forum..

LOL, you need to reread what you wrote. You're using "societal expectations" as your justification for this diatribe:

When you apply for a license to use this privilege in your state, you agree to abide by the rules of the state, including abiding by the posted speed limits. It doesnt matter if the roads are smooth as glass, or pothole infested gravel pits..

If you violate those rules, there are consequences; including fines, jail, confiscating your vehicle, and others.

If you dont want to be subject to those consequences, you have 2 choices; don't drive, or obey the rules..

such a simple concept, I can't fathom why anyone has an issue with it..
When called out on fetishising "the man", you used societal expectations to defend your unquestioning obeyance to the letter of the law. That doesn't work unless you believe they are one in the same. So if you admit they are different, and it's not societal expectations you believe obligates people to follow every law to a tee, you're back to square one with no reasoning. As JG so elequently put, not everybody fetishises the almighty state and it’s power. Some of us think critically using risk/reward. Does that help you "fathom"?

I also believe it's the lack of enforcement on the highways and roads here. I hardly see police on the highways, and even more rare is seeing them with someone pulled over.

It's like a ****ing wild west here with no enforcement (on the roads)

I still continue to do 5-10 over the speed limit but still get people running up my ass and flying around me, **** them period. I hate this place as far as driving is concerned. People are impatient rude pieces of **** on the roads here and there is NO law enforcement to help mitigate it.

Go with the flow. Problem solved. Or simply stay to the right and let people fly by your left. Who cares?

I don't stay in the right lane when I'm already going 5-10 over the speed limit, usually I'm in the lane to the left of the right lane though. Why haul ass everywhere? There is hardly a savings in time but sure as hell an increase in the cost of gas.

Because cruising at 80 is easy to do here. Traffic usually flows, the lanes are nice and wide, the road conditions are great, and we rarely have weather-related obstacles. Why putz around at 70 when traffic is flying by?

There's not enough manpower to enforce all of this stuff. They tried with freeway cameras, but that was a joke because everyone knew where the cameras were.

I don't care so much about doing 10 over, as long as it's done sensibly. What I don't care for are stupid and dangerous maneuvers, like tailgating or last chance merging.

I have it on my "to do list" to get a dashcam, mostly for my own documentation in case of any accidents. But it would be nice if one could submit video of a dangerous driver to police and have them act on it. I'd imagine it would have to be something that results in injury or death, though, before police would be interested in seeing video?

I’m sure the last thing police want to do is watch videos from traffic vigilantes. I’m sure they’re busy enough.

I'm with you; especially the rule about slower drivers keeping to the right! Those self-righteous left-lane traffic impeders should choose your option #1: Don't Drive.

Always funny how every traffic thread on here starts being about the same old things over and over again. Speeding, going too slow, doing the speed limit in the left hand lane, merging...is it a wonder that road rage is still a thing. It never ceases to amaze me to listen to the number of crashes on the morning traffic reports, I mean...you were all going in the same direction, right? How in the world...if you are cognizant of your surroundings...do you hit someone else going in the same direction that you are?

Just crazy.
