I registered republican as a teenager. I never switched to independent because I like having some influence on who gets on the ballot. If I think there's a great republican, I'll vote for him/her at the primaries. If I don't like the republican choices, I'll vote for the one who has the least chance of beating the democrat I'm supporting. And maybe that's why the republicans can't get a good contender---maybe many of us registered republicans are really wolves in sheeps clothing.

Adam Serwer is a well-known reporter who has been covering this story extensively, but in any event he didn't argue it was "harmless", he just clarified what it actually does, and in fact he noted he still thinks the bill should be vetoed.
