Supposedly, as of today, airlines will no longer be able to spring so many hidden fees upon customers. I am sure some airlines will do their best to find loopholes and contine to tack on silly charges and fees after booking.

They are not "hidden". They are only hidden to those who don't read what is on their website.

If I had a choice to fly out of Latrobe or PIT, I will take Latrobe. Free parking is all I need to hear. Go on a week vacation and your car sits for free. Leave out of PIT and how much will that cost you? ouch!

They'll charge you for a carry on if you use the overhead bin.

They also have fees of over $100 if you change your reservation.

If your flight is only $65 who would pay a $100 change fee? Do you have to pay the bag fees up front?

I'm headed to Orlando in August and thought this sounded great so I checked the Spirit site. I see there's a $35 carry on fee and $33 checked bag fee. So the fees cost more than the fare. It'll end up costing about the same as my PIT to ORL flight last year on Southwest and I won't have to drive an hour and a half to the airport. But the free parking at Latrobe is a nice plus.

You don't have to, but they are cheaper when you do.

If Spirit had flown to Orlando now, I might have tried it, although driving all the way out to Latrobe would be a pain; we only have one car for the two of us. I've been rather anti-Spirit because they're taking the same tack as Ryanair in Europe: everything costs extra. You might even have to pay for the bathroom. Latrobe would be a nicer airport experience I'm sure, though, much less hassle. I also was very close to booking my trip to Daytona Beach International instead of Orlando, but eventually after working through various permutations, Southwest still came out better. I don't think DAB is free of the scanners anyway. I just booked this flight on Monday. Was just over 300 bucks.

Not sure what happened to that article? It was a little better than this one.

^Thanks!
When I went to spirit's website I had a little giggle at the ad they had on the right about the government taxes.
