In the Body Bag especially, gangs have been feuding since the early 90's (there are a few that even began in the late 80's)... In the 90's the beefs in the Body Bag were:
-Homewood Crips vs Homewood Crips (1993 only)
-Homewood Crips vs Wilkinsburg's LAW gang
-Homewood Crips vs East Hills Bloods
-Homewood Crips vs Lincoln-Lemington Crips
-Homewood Crips vs Garfield Bloods
-Larimer's LAW gang Vs Garfield Bloods
-East Hills Bloods vs Wilkinsburg's LAW gang
-Lincoln-Lemington Crips vs Larimer's LAW gang
-Garfield Bloods vs East Liberty's Crips/East Mall Apts/Lincoln Park Apts/Penn Circle East Apts
-Garfield Bloods vs Lincoln-Lemington Crips
-East Liberty's Crips/East Mall Apts vs Larimer's LAW's
& to a lesser extent
-Wilkinsburg's LAW gang vs Lincoln Park/Eastwood, Penn Hills hybrid crews
*In the East Mall, Lincoln Park, Penn Circle East Apts, drug dealers occasionally killed eachother (drug related violence not really qualifying for gang violence)

Today it's:
-UpTown Hoods & City Bound Gangtaz, Wilkinsburg G'z (LAW) vs J-Town Hoods, Wilkinsburg G'z (LAW)
-Lincoln Avenue Crips vs Homewood's Crips
-UpTown Homewood Crips vs DownTown Homewood Crips
-DownTown Homewood Crips vs 581 HillTop Crips & 211 Dallas-Inwood Boyz (Homewood's Crips)
-581 HillTop Crips & 211 Dallas-Inwood Boyz (Homewood Crips) vs UpTown Homewood Crips
-Wilkinsburg G'z (LAW) vs East Hills Bloods
-Wilkinsburg G'z (LAW) vs the DownTown & UpTown Homewood Crips
-East Hills Bloods vs Homewood's Crips
-Garfield Bloods vs Larimer Avenue Hoods (LAW)
& to a lesser extent
-Lincoln Avenue Crips vs Garfirld Bloods
-Larimer Avenue Hoods (LAW) Vs East Liberty's hybrid gangs
-East Liberty's hybrid gangs vs Garfield Bloods
-Garfield Bloods vs UpTown & Down Town Homewood Crips
*In the highlighted parts of Lincoln Park/Eastwood/Nadine/Laketon Heights, Penn Hills & Northern East Liberty drug dealers occasionally kill eachother (drug related violence not really qualifying for gang violence)

So basically most gang rivalries have been going on for over two decades!!! And just like SCR said how one street separates black & white, one street/gas stations often separates these rival neighborhoods... In Homewood's & Wilkinsburg's case parts of one neighborhood! Today Frankstown Ave-strictly separates "UpTown" & "DownTown" Homewood; Brushton Ave- roughly seperates Brushton-Hilltop and "UpTown" Homewood; Oakwood St- strictly separates Homewood & the East Hills; Penn Ave strictly separates UpTown & J-Town Wilkinsburg; Apple Ave/Stranahan St strictly separates Homewood & Lincoln-Lemington; Nimick Pl-strictly separates the East Hills & Wilkinsburg; Rodgers Middle School (formerly Negley Ave) roughly separates Northern East Liberty & Garfield; & the Lincoln & Larimer Ave Bridges strictly separate Lincoln-Lemington & Larimer

That is so true. I remember as a kid in the early 80's of the Hill verses Homewood due to the strong school rivalries (Schenley-red and Westinghouse-blue). The Hill/Hazelwood rivalry started when both neighborhoods were bused to Brashear. Before that when the 2010 club was open on the Northside, it was them verses the rest of the eastside of the city.

I can remember me and 5 of my friends would play basketball in different neighborhoods across the city and never had a probelm, odf course that was in the late 70s. We played football against all of the project teams at Ammons or Kennard field with never a probelm either. Those were the days that unfortunately will never return

4 shot, 1 killed in Homewood; Pittsburgh police investigating - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The motives to these shootings in Homewood are probably gang-related, and apparently there have been many more unreported shootings recently as well...

Wilkinsburg Shooting Leaves 1 Dead « CBS Pittsburgh
S Trenton Avenue currently isn't bad (no longer in the Body Bag technically), but not too long ago it was very rough & gang affiliated with the City Bound Gangstaz of the Wilkinsburg G'z... There's probably a possibility that this was gang-related...

Not a great day for this city. Various media sources are reporting the woman killed on S. Trenton is unidentifiable after being killed by a shotgun blast to the face, which sounds like an execution, perhaps?

And then there was a Medical Examiner van, several police cruisers, and a knot of detectives standing in the driveway of a house near the corner of Pocusset and Wightman in Sq Hill at about 12:15 today - not far from where a young black man was arrested recently on drug dealing charges. Nothing in the media about that one, yet.

There are plenty of non reported shootings, Uptown Kid. I met a few grad students today and we were talking about Oak Hill today. He said there's been multiple shootings in that area this year and none have been on the news. Obviously the mixed income housing is working great...

Interesting, I wonder what's been going on over there... Drugs are everywhere, though you don't really see/hear about detectives making arrest on violent offenders in broad daylight in SQ Hill... Feel free to post again if you find out any more details.

Yea I bet some shots can be heard from Bentley Drive Housing Projects too. Oakhill had major issues for a mixed-income apt complex when it originally opened up, as it still had maybe 40% of the old trouble makers from Allequippa Tereace still living there. Yet in 2011/2012 (perhaps new management) the complex got MUCH safer, and the trouble makers were restricted to the low income Burrows Street section (mostly the same public housing buildings as the complex before, just a little better maintained/polished). These trouble makers rep the "Burrows Street Bloods branch of "Flackside Blood Gang"...
Perhaps since the closing of Elmore Square & Reed Roberts Manors some low income residents reclocated there, and perhaps some trouble makers from there relocated to Oakhill Drive/Waring Court/Terrace St/upper blocks of Burrows St...

The stories he told me were absolutely ridiculous and the detail in which he described them I knew he wasn't exaggerating. He lives actually on Burrows Street. He said everyone on that street is older and not really trouble makers. He suspects them to be from the apartment complexes.

The woman killed on S. Trenton at least has a name now:

Homewood clocked 10 shootings (including a homicide and a incident that left a cop paralyzed) over a 14 day period last month. Not to mention two well known brothers from of the nolonger active Formosa Way Crips set of the DownTown Homewood Crips were killed in March & February. As a result, something that should of occurred years ago finally happened: Pittsburgh City Council approves security cameras for Homewood - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ...
This concept really helped to reduce crime in the Hilltop-Parkview Manor Apts in Duquesne & Northview Heights Projects. Hopefully these new surveillance devices don't share the same fate as the street lights and/or cameras in the: Hamilton-Larimer Auburn Street Apts, Lemington Heights Apts, Homewood North Housing Projects at Molher Street; where the gangsters shot up and/or cut the wires.

What amazes me is these areas have been a problem for decades now and the response is always the same: arrest the troublemakers, apply some window dressing, move them around ... isn't there a long-term solution? Legalize drugs?

Exclamation drive by kills an infant

A broad day, drive-by-shooting in the East Hills kills a baby & critically injuries two innocent women during a community picnic... This incident apparently follows numerous incidents of reported gun fire in the East Hills (therfore probably other East End neighborhoods as well) that didn't make the news.
Baby killed, two women injured in East Hills shooting - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

This is just another one of the countless examples of how one demographic section of the East End celebrates, while another mourns. To tell the truth, for some people living in the East End, the quality of life is that of the city's favored quarter; although for others it's significantly different. Shoot, people really get two distinct persepctives of the easternmost neighborhoods of the city depending on a single street or a side of the MLK busway...
