Sad to say, but this is likely an accident. An former neighbor of mine had her late father accidentally set himself on fire at age 90. Old people do stupid things sometimes - especially when they are still living on their own with little supervision.

Obviously. Put them all away. They know what they're doing is wrong and there's no excuse for it.

They are reporting that he was beaten before he was set on fire and two men were seen leaving the house earlier in the day.

I missed that part of the report. Odd. What in the world would anyone want from an 87 year old?

He lived in a house with some younger, what sounded like renters who helped him with the property. No word on whether or not those men are suspects. So sad.

Gentrification has helped the city numbers, but Wilkinsburg borders the city and that is a lot of murders. The more wealthy people that move to the city the better it will be. The East End is trying to complete the natural cycle to make its comeback to what it was designed to be. It was a shame it got so bad there. A little at a time that area may become livable.

You're seriously assuming it was an accident?

Can't wait to hear how these 2 men are going to be defended of beating and setting a man on fire.

As I said, I was reading in a hurry and missed his brother saying men had beat him up immediately prior.

I've lived within, worked within, and played within the East End for 5.5 years and, knock on wood, have yet to be murdered or gang-raped. I would consider the East End much more livable than Fox Chapel, which has nearly zero businesses within walking distance of 95% of the borough and where most roads don't have sidewalks, forcing people to walk in the streets. Walking up and down Fox Chapel Road is an unpleasant experience.
