These aren't "kids", they are legal adults. This isn't typical college crap either. He didn't pass out at a party drunk & look stupid for a couple of days.

What they did is illegal. They will get charged criminally. Also, they will get sued in civil court, along with the university. They should.

It will be argued that they wanted to get a reaction out of the person they essentially attacked mentally. They got a reaction they probably didn't bargain for, but the results are what they are. They took someones privacy, and broadcast it to the world.

It is completely reasonable to believe that some people put in this type of life altering event would have this type of reaction. How could this person ever go on "normally" without this following them around for life. Impossible.

I agree they will be charged criminally and the charge for their crime(distributing a video of a sex act carries maximum sentence of 5 years) is appropriate.

However I don't agree that their crime rises to the level of murder or manslaughter as you seem to be(I think) implying.

Murder? no. Manslaughter? debatable. Cruelty in some fashion? definitely.

The penalties will be pretty harsh if the victim's family has any real connections in law enforcement.

One would hope to believe that a person going to college, being paid by parents, would have the sense and maturity that pranks are for kindergarten.

Disagree.

1. The University can protect it's reputation etc. and boot people for any number of non-academic offenses.

2. It happened on University property.

3. Precedents like the Duke Lacrosse team (entire season canceled and bans for an off-campus incident) and dozens more if you google around.

P.S. You used to have a crappy roomate, imagine if he webcammed your bathroom and didn't tell you since it's "his bathroom too". No way you'd be defending his actions.

Personally, I'm thinking they probably committed a felony doing what they did and transmitting it on the internet...not to mention they're going to be sued into the stone-age.

I agree with all of the above except what sort of case they would have against the University? Really, the University did nothing wrong here....I mean, why not sue the ISP, web cam manufacturer and whomever irresponsibly built something taller than 8 feet that he managed to jump off of?

If this man had sex with a female , would he have jumped ?
Truth be told , he killed himself rather than be gay. The sight of a man naked with another man is different than the pictures we have in our heads of gays decorating and helping us pick out clothes.

When did a man ever kill himself over being filmed with a woman ?
